After 10 seasons, it’s time for David Caruso to turn in his sunglasses. CBS has cancelled CSI: Miami, the first show in the CSI franchise to end.
Starting in 2002, the TV series follows a South Florida team of forensic investigators who often use advanced scientific methods to solve crimes. The current cast includes Caruso, Adam Rodriguez, Emily Procter, Eva La Rue, Jonathan Togo, Omar Benson Miller, and Rex Linn.
The ratings for CSI: Miami have declined over the years. Season 10 averaged a 2.1 in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 9.85 million total viewers. That was down from season nine by 13% in the demo (vs a 2.4 rating) and down by 5% in viewership (vs 10.39 million).
While the cop show’s overall viewership is still impressive, advertisers want shows that cater to the demo audience and the network has many shows that attract big overall audiences.

What’s more, after 10 seasons on the air, CSI: Miami is no doubt very expensive to produce and there are already 232 episodes, more than enough to keep running in syndication for many years.
Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, suggested that one of the CSI shows might be cancelled this month. The original CSI was already renewed so it was a guessing game to see if Miami or NY would bite the bullet. CSI: NY has reportedly been renewed for season nine.
Of the cancellation news, CBS released the following statement:
CSI: Miami leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue — and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons. Viewers around the world will continue to enjoy rebroadcasts of CSI: Miami in syndication and on key digital platforms for many years to come.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that CSI: Miami has been cancelled? Will you miss the show? Was it time for it end or would you have liked to have seen an 11th season?

Atleast solve the case and end the story. Not just end it and let us hang on “Oh my gosh what happen to team?” I still miss Horatio.
Needs to stay on.
I think the reason CBS thinks fan base dropped was because they put it on Sunday during football season and not many people that watch the show watch football. Football would run late causing undercover bosses or the good wife to run late causing us fans to miss it on tv and watch it online. Bring back Miami and do it on a weekday.
yeah i agree football sucks
CSI; Miami was an excellent show! I Can’t believe that CBS cancelled it and leaves on CRAP like the Big Bang Theory, Two and A Half Men, How I met Your Mother, etc. I can’t belief that very many people would conciously watch this garbage. These are supplosed to be comedies, but they are so STUPID that they impossible to watch. It is obvious to me that the heads of CBS are brain dead as well. It’s too bad that you had 7 of the top ten shows on TV, but now you are down to 6. How many more… Read more »
big bang theory is one of the mos watched sitcoms ever, csi miami was good on the first few seasons but after a few years i got less good and more boring, and if you dont like big bang theory or two and a half men which are the best sitcoms ever you cant possible like sitcoms at all…
It sucks, it was one of the few good shows on tv, now only Law
and Order SVU is worth watching. Why don’t we add more airtime for the Kardashians!
Basically what you are doing is adding to the duming of America. Shows like CSI Miami make you use your head by always thinking about who commited the murder/crime. By replacing them with shows like the B in apt 23 and the like, you turn our brains to mush and pollute them and the same time. Shows with real substance are rare these days. Please don’t take away one of the best shows left on tv today. We need real shows, not trash tv.
AMEN!!! I totally agree with you!!!
csi should not be cancelled! It is such a great tv show! I miss it so much. CBS has made a big mistake
I totally agree!!! This is absolutely rediculous! Why cancel one in the first place?! I mean, they’re all good, but to be honest, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is the oldest, and no offence to the cast and crew, but probably my least favourite of the three!! CSI: Miami was the best by a pretty long shot! CBS are making a HUGE mistake! Do they think they’ll get the money they “lost” by cancelling season 11? It’s just silly!
There were some good people in CSI: Miami but several irritating things about the show. David Caruso being in the lead was a distinct drawback. He is mannered yet, at the same time, wooden and one note in his performances. The photography was annoying. If this show had been putting out tourist publicity I could have taken the continual use of coloured filters but the graduated orange washes were intrusive. I know this is a drama and so the women CSI people are always shown with their hair loose, contaminating crime scenes but the seven inch stilettos and white clothes… Read more »
I miss CSI Miami. It was a well written show with good actors. CBS needs to change their attitude. They should cancel “Survivor”. You made a big mistake.
I will genuinely miss CSI Miami. Loved, loved, loved the show. I will miss all the actors. I just loved the Miam scenery with the bright colors. Always looked forward to watching the show with the interesing storylines. CBS truly made a big mistake ending this series. Please, please bring the show back with new stories.
as long as it dont affect the norweian version of survivor im all in for that, they should cancel all reality shows besides the ones who actually helps people like biggest loser
[…] TV show dates: September 23, 2002 – April 8, 2012 Series status: Cancelled […]
CBS please save CSI Miami I have watch it for years please reconsider. Either that or see if another network wants it.
YES YES YES!!!!
I was very sad to hear CSI:Miami had been canceled. I never missed an episode of it. It was never boring & always kept you guessing. I Loved the team they had for the show I will really miss them a lot.
i think cbs is very wrong they bring into our homes very good shows like csi miami , and csiny they are part of our family we can finally enjoy something on tv that is showing us all about crime and new ways to see how our system for crime is being used every day CBS you are only looking for the big bucks and listen to ******** and put **** in place of csi miami and others shows leave the good shows on and replace those ******** you cater to there is no respect for the millions who wait… Read more »
If CBS cannot renew CSI: Miami, then they should at least consider selling it to another network, as they are considering doing with Unforgettable.
This is a great idea!! I hope they will do the same thing with CSI:Miami!!

Guys … do something! We must save csi miami!!!
Too many unresolved episodes, relationships, and exciting episodes to be had!!! The CBS network cancelled the wrong program between the two (as I understand)!!!! Be honest, the network should know that the one chosen to stay on TV is not the best of the two. CSI Miami could be moved to Friday night. It has been moved before. The rest of us may not count toward helping CSI Miami stay on CBS’s network, since we are not within the certain age groups required by advertisers; BUT, we are alive, active and vibrant!!! My husband and I have watched every episode… Read more »
I am beyond upset about CBS’s VERY POOR decision to cancel CSI Miami. No matter what anyone else thinks, I believe that this show was the BEST TV show in existence. THE BEST! Period! If the ratings were down, this happened ONLY becuase the show was continuously being bumped and/or moved later by stupid sports events. Many people just did not want to stay up later to watch it due to work schedules, family demands and other logistic reasons. Additionally, people who record their shows got shafted whenever Miami was bumped for a sports event, so they as well, never… Read more »
