We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

Unfortunately, my wife and I are outside the “DEMOGRAPHIC” that the networks rely on apparently. Yes we are seniors but have enjoyed CSI NY along with so many of the other shows that have been cancelled over the years…..Not everyone likes every show that are broadcast and some do run their course by their story lines, but in the case of CSI NY, cast members do change but with what happens in daily life, there are always people doing stupid things that another story line can be made into a new and different episode.
I would like to see CSI NY go at least one more season. The cast works well together and the plots are still well crafted.
I think of all the CSI shows this is the best one and always has been. It should
definitly be renewed.
Are you kidding, With the cast change to Selma Ward this show is great. Cancel any of the others you like, but this one is a keeper, and should be given more consideration.
CSI: NY is the BEST…don’t cancel it! It’s far more realistic than CSI: Miami, so cancel that if you have to. But if shows are good and viewers like them, why cancel them just because they’ve been on the air for years. Replacing good TV shows: well-written, great plots and actors with idiotic sit coms is just sad. And moving TV shows all over the time slots decreases watchability…if you don’t know when a show is on, how can you watch it?
Do not cancel. Great show. Very realistic. Thanks
Cancel CSI Miami 1st. I love CSI:NY. Miami is just a vehicle to pump up Caruso’s ego as he tries without success to be a Grissom and his team just runs over every suspect without knowing who is guilty. Intimadation is not police work. The NY team has more on the ball and there is not so much backing slapping. The characters are enjoyable and human which is great. Sinese doesn’t try to be Grissom (known for his dry, well-timed, well put comments laced with humor). Sinise has developed his character’s own distinct personality, you dont feel like you are… Read more »
Do not cancel. Very real and patriotic. Love it and miss it
I realize that nothing can last forever but CSI New York is my favorite of the three. If CBS takes it off the air it will be time to watch the re-runs because the rest of the garbage on tv doesn’t even come close to the quality of CSI.
CSI NY was by far the best of the CSI shows as far as I am concerned. CSI has not been worth watching since Grissom left and CSI Miami Isn’t much better. All of the filthy so-called comedy shows should be taken off instead of CSI NY.
Why do networks keep those asinine “reality” shows on while considering letting go of good programming such as CSI NY and other shows like it with decent plots and good characters?? CBS (and other networks) should listen to what their viewers want or else they will cease to have viewers.
I really hope CBS doesn’t cancel CSI New York. To me it has been the best of the 3 CSI’s. The cast with Gary Senise in the lead role is awsume. The chemistry between all the cast gets better with every show. I agree with one of the other comments that CSI Las Vegas lost a lot chemistry with William Petterson departing the show and now with Marg leaving, it won’t be the same. CSI NY has great writers; the stories are constantly evolving. You can keep those silly, stupid sitcoms. I refuse to watch those shows as they insult… Read more »
Out of all the CSI shows CSI:NY is my favorite followed by CSI:Miami and then CSI. To cancel this show will be a big MISTAKE!!!!! Although I DvR the show, I also sit down and watch it. Because I heard them say on a talk show that the DvR / TiVo recordings don’t count towards the shows rating. And I still watch the DvR recording over the weekend.
THERE’S NOTHING TO FIX WITH THE LINE UP ON FRIDAY NIGHTS!!! LEAVE IT ALONE PLEASE!!!!!!
Now that you finally got rid of Lawerance Fishburn on CSI and added Ted Danson you made a step in the right direction. I hope the show survives because I like the original CSI. CSI NY is excellent with the cast, especially Gary Senise. If you are going to kill a CSI program get rid of CSI Miami. The main character does nothing but pose for shots. It is unfortunate that Marg Helgenburger left CSI as she added just the right character. It was unfortunate that you didn’t just promote her to the position that was held by Peterson and… Read more »
CBS, be real careful with some of your program changes. You want to maintain your viewer’s and ratings, so don’t mess with good shows such as CSINY!
