Next week, TNT’s Dallas will complete its third season — the first full one without JR Ewing. How’s the TV show done in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a fourth season or will it be cancelled instead?
Airing on Monday nights, Dallas continues to follow the machinations of the dysfunctional and powerful Ewing clan. The cast includes Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Juan Pablo Di Pace.
The third season began airing in late February and the first episode was down by 11% when compared to the second season opener. That was a reasonable decline but then the second installment dropped by 27%. The numbers dropped even lower as the season progressed.
Year-to-year, Dallas is down by 26% in viewership and down by 38% in the 18-49 demographic. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series and that’s not a good sign for the show’s future prospects. It also has a large cast so that means it’s not a cheap series either.
On the positive side, there’s some financial incentive to keep the show going. Dallas is produced by Warner Horizon Television which, like TNT, is part of the Time Warner corporation. Also, at the end of season three, there will only be 40 episodes. That’s not enough for a syndication package so if the execs are on the fence about whether to renew or cancel, that could work in the show’s favor.
I suspect that TNT will renew Dallas for a fourth season but, with ratings like these, the show could certainly be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Have you grown tired of the new Dallas TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
Update: TNT has cancelled Dallas after three seasons. Details here.

Love Dallas. Renew the show!!!!
Apparently, ratings are down. Well, ever consider NOT putting Dallas up against Dancing with the Stars & Football ? It’s a great show. Picked up right where the old one left folks…wanting MORE of the Ewings. Like how business scenarios keep the lives of the family tangled in one mess and then another. Have to keep watching to see who gonna come out ahead and how! Amazing plot twists. Kudos to the writers. Cast is yummy. Listen to your viewers! Renew Dallas!!!!!
Please, please, please, keep Dallas. It’s great suspense from week to week without TONS of guns. Keeps us guessing who’s going with who next! Fun!
Please Please Please continue!!!!! This is a show that my husband and I will watch together! We both would be really disappointed if it was cancelled!
Love this show…… keep…… I am so sick of reality shows………. This is a great show with lots of entertainment for sure..
Please renew .i love watching them on monday nights. I look forward to this every monday. I cant see not continueing the show, its awesome.
I just came back from south fork ranch tour
Renew it! I still look forward to it every week. The new characters, which I thought would take away from the original series, have enhanced it. Perfect casting all around. It would be a shame to have it gone so soon without giving it another season or two to catch those who haven’t given it a chance!
KEEP DALLAS ALIVE! LOVE THIS SHOW!
I think it should be renewed . There are so many more story lines that can be injected into the series. Look @ how Dallas begin. Create more suspense. There are many unexplored angles. Dig deeper. Think about the story lines that made this series sizzle. Dallas had you recording so you didn’ t miss any episodes. I am for renewing it. Keep one if the best series ever alive. We need to have something to make you sit on the edge of.your seat. Wondering what was going to happen next.
