There won’t be a second season of the Dead of Summer TV show on Freeform. The thriller TV series has been cancelled after one season of 10 episodes. Fellow summer series Guilt was canned after one season a couple weeks ago.
A supernatural horror TV show, Dead of Summer is set in the late 1980s. School is out and a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp beckons. There are plenty of firsts there — first loves, first kisses, and first kills. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Elizabeth Lail, Zelda Williams, Mark Indelicato, Alberto Frezza, Eli Goree, Ronen Rubinstein, Amber Coney, and Paulina Singer.
Freeform had high hopes for the show and gave it a direct-to-series order after a multi-script commitment. Unfortunately, Dead of Summer never measured up in the ratings.
The show debuted in late June to a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 628,000 viewers. The numbers never got any better and, over the course of the season, it fell as low as a 0.14 in the demo with 358,000 viewers. The season (now series) finale aired on August 30th. After averaging a 0.2 in the demo with 459,000, it was pretty clear that Dead of Summer wouldn’t be back for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like the Dead of Summer TV show on Freeform? Would you have watched season two?
This show was the bomb . They should without doubt renew it.
