Operatives Jones and Beneventi won’t be uncovering answers on NBC in the 2021-22 television season. The Peacock network has cancelled the Debris TV series for a second year.
The Debris TV show stars Jonathan Tucker, Riann Steele, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scroobius Pip. The story begins as mysterious wreckage starts falling from the sky. A secretive international agency named Orbital is tasked with figuring out what the wreckage is, where it came from, and most importantly — what it can do. British MI6 operative Finola Jones (Steele) and American CIA agent Bryan Beneventi (Tucker) are partners but they have very different styles. However, they have no choice but to trust each other as they track down the debris scattered across the Western Hemisphere. Each fragment has unpredictable, powerful, and sometimes dangerous effects on the everyday people who find it. They must race against time as shadowy outside forces seek these objects for nefarious purposes.
Airing on Monday nights, the first season of Debris averaged a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.79 million viewers in the live+same day ratings. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. Despite airing out of one of NBC’s highest-rated shows, The Voice, the drama was one of the network’s lowest-rated scripted shows.
The season finale of Debris aired on Monday night and not surprisingly left plotlines unresolved. The show’s series creator has talked about hoping to find a way to continue telling the story if it was cancelled.
Decisions have yet to be made on other NBC shows like Ellen’s Game of Games, Good Girls, Manifest, and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
What do you think? Have you watched the Debris TV show? Do you wish that this sci-fi series had been renewed for a second season?
This is so stupid
I’m truly sorry to see this show cancelled. It’s sad that no one these days can stand a science fiction type show that clearly requires some thinking and exudes intelligence. My wife and I are both 68 (Yup – Not in the 18-49 age group) that dictates all life these days. As others have stated, we also recorded the show and watched on Saturday nights. The final episode was great, and brought a lot of the story arc together, and really made us look forward to what was to happen next. It’s amazing that this show was created by the… Read more »
Ok just got done watching the last episode and now I’m really ticked off that they canceled the show.
Nooo! Loved this show!! So much potential and now we will never know what the bigger picture was going to be. I hope someone else picks it up it up.
I’m so upset they didn’t give it another chance, especially with that ending. I also hate that with me watching it the next day on HULU wasn’t counted. I imagine many others did as well. Debris was hands down my favorite new show this year, 1 of my 2 favorite shows currently on, & became one of my top 20 of all time after the last couple episodes. So yes I’m beyond upset that almost everything I read said since it had only 1 season with such small viewership, it has a very low chance of being picked by one… Read more »
Debris is a great show. What a shame they canceled it.
WTH!!! I love this show, but I’ve loved a bunch of these kinds of shows and they get cancelled. It’s one thing for a show to end after a 15-20 year run, but that isn’t what’s happening…who cares what the 18-49 age group likes. There have been sooo many shows, my husband and I (we’re over the age of 60) enjoyed, that were cancelled ALL because the 18-49 yr olds weren’t watching. It’s discrimination of those of us over 50 & 60!!! I’m so sick of it. Guess it’s time to just let cable TV go, and find other entertainment.
My thoughts exactly. Well said. They did this with revolution and timeless too. There’s been too many great shows cancelled that I have loved.. now b my Debris, This is Us, & Manifest. I might be over 60 but still enjoy a great show. I don’t do streaming service so Major network is my only choice. Come on NBC
I am in my mid-60s and I’ve been an avid Sci-Fi fan since I was in my single digits. I would watch this show the day after on the Peacock streaming platform. Now, I’ll never know who the John Noble character was supposed to be or the 3rd man reference. Netflix, please pick this up.
I just could not warm to either of the main actors and thought neither was right for the part so stopped watching
I have watched Debris from the first episode of Season 1. Show reminds me in some ways of The X-Files. Don’t cancel this show, it has a great future!!
Yes very much like X-files. Similar character dynamics, too.
Geez, ANOTHER GOOD. Show Cancelled. I love Debris. My youngest daughter & I always say down to watch it. Love the whole idea of it, & now we’re stuck wondering…. I sure hope Netflix, Amazon, or Someone picks it up. It’s A Great Show that needs to be told.
We really like this show. I hope Netflix picks it up. NBC sucks
Really hope some other channel picks up Debris. An interesting and exciting show with a great cast. I’m very disappointed
I am so disappointed, I loved the show! I’m also mad that it ended in such a cliffhanger. I hope somehow we fans can get a conclusion. Come on amazon ,netflix or some other channel, please pick this up!
I think this show fell victims to the “Lost” factor where week after week more questions and no answers. This would have had a better chance on the SciFi channel or Netflix.
Enjoyed this show. It seems that another of the best shows are being canceled. Is something strange going on? Some of the worst renewed every year.
