Charlie Sheen and CBS’ Two and a Half Men have played havoc with the other network’s schedules for years. The sitcom is one of the top-rated shows on television and sometimes reruns outperform the competition. Now, Sheen is helping ABC for a change.
ABC News has landed an exclusive interview with the troubled actor and will air it on Tuesday night on a special edition of 20/20. The special edition will no doubt get huge ratings.
To make room for the interview, ABC has once again pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7, the network’s lowest-rated scripted series. From a ratings standpoint, just about anything they can put in that timeslot will perform as well or better than Detroit 1-8-7. Last week’s special edition of Primetime garnered a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.14 million viewers. That’s certainly not a great performance but it is 14% better than the previous episode of Detroit 1-8-7.
As frustrating as this may be to fans of the crime drama, ABC isn’t likely to stop pre-empting it. On the positive side, Detroit 1-8-7 remains on next week’s schedule, for now at least. At this point, the show is all but cancelled and the network is essentially burning off the remaining episodes. There are three episodes left in this season and there’s no way that its coming back for season two.
What do you think? Will ABC get around to airing the three remaining episodes of Detroit 1-8-7?
A B C AGAIN you have cut the Best show on TV for more trash!!!.. The Show can’t get rating if you don’t run it… Charlie Sheen is on every newscast for weeks WHO CARES!!!!!… Detroit 187 is the best show to be on T V____ EVER___ maybe I’m a little prejudice cause I’m from Detroit but I love to see the area even as bad as it looks it was onetime home… come on you guys pre empt something else, I wait for this show every week as do many many others just read the comments.. Can’t believe I had to watch that idiot instead of the best police drama in a very long time. Please do not cancel this show!! CANCEL CHARLIE INSTEAD!!
I don’t watch much tv, but I watch Detroit 187 whenever its on. I am very disappointed that it isn’t on. Charlie Sheen is so arrogant and scuzzy and I don’t iunderstand why he is given so much air time. What a waste. I’m not surprised ABC is probably going to cancel such a well written and acted show. Sad to say it looks like Charlie Sheen is right about the suits that run the networks so enjoy his vulgar spewing as I turn the tv off and read a good book!
I gave up on series tv but have recently come to look forward to Detroit 187. I was disappointed it was canceled tonight for charlie sheen???
i am actually really surprised the show is not doing well. i thought it was one of the best shows of the year.when a network runs repeats and other shows it’s hard to keep up when a show is on. it is also against my favorite show on tv right now parenthood. i tape both shows and watch them both. i really don’t understand who’s making decisions on these shows. they gear tv and ads to attract 20 to 30 year olds but that isn’t who is staying home and watching tv.they always have the best shows all on at… Read more »
Detroit 1-8-7 has become our favorite show by a mile. We are tired of seeing our favorite show preempted this often. It looks like we will have no choice but to wait for the last three shows. Our prevoius favorites have included Law and Order, Law and Oreder: Special victims unit and NYPD Blue. We feel that Detroit 1-8-7 is yn the same class. If we owned any Disney stock it would have been sold as fast as an O.J. Simpson football card.
I wish ABC would quit pre-empting Detroit 1-8-7! It is a great show that beats all the Reality shows that are on now. Don’t make a big mistake of canceling of the show.
As a former Detroiter I was thrilled about the show – but from the start ABC didn’t give it a chance. I never watch anything on ABC and thought this would be a good opportunity. Sorry, the show is being cancelled – maybe a cable channel will pick it up.
Who cares about Charlie Sheen? Detroit is an excellent cop show. I usually tape it because I also watch The Good Wife – probably the reason for low ratings. Detroit 187 has great stories, dialog, characters, and acting. My only criticism would be the lieutenant (guess that is her level). I don’t think she adds anything to the show, the character may be okay but another actor/actress would be better. Don’t give up on a great show that has tough competition. Try another night and/or time. This show is in the vein of NYPD, not pretty or glamorous. Real and… Read more »
I THINK IT’S A GOOD SERIES. WILL MISS IT.
And who cares about Charlie Sheen…he has been out of control for the longest. CBS has put up with this type of issue with him for years. He is a time bomb waiting to blow. He is a womanizer and my heart goes out to the children. They do not deserve this. For their sake I truly hope he stop pretending to be sober and really get his act together.
Detroit 1-8-7 is a great show. I really think if the show is moved to another night…say Monday the ratings would be better. I must admit there are too many great shows on at 10 o’clock Tuesday nights. I really wish ABC wouldn’t cancel the show . Truly without 1-8-7 ABC is only good for their Thursday night line-up and GMA.
Why?? This show is really that good! Please leave this show on and get rid of some reality crap!!
Detroit 1-8-7 is one of the few shows we look forward to watching. We are disappointed that ABC pre-empted it for a special featuring Charlie Sheen in his depraved state of mind. Gretta Sustern will fill the hour for us.
abc has become pure ****. I am so tired of not being able to watch Detroit 187. Of course the ratings are bad for this show, ABC is too poorly run to know a good show when they have it. We have watched all the crap on charlie sheen we can take. ABC is clearly the last ones to know anything and this last ones to interview the latest idiot. ABC, I was a fan until I just could NOT take anymore of your poor decisions. I’m done and it is really sad.
