Is there a future for Downward Dog and The Carmichael Show? Deadline reports the cast contracts for both the ABC and NBC TV series expire soon.
A new ABC sitcom, Downward Dog premiered in May. The comedy centers on Nan (Allison Tolman) and is narrated by her philosophically inclined and rather forlorn dog, Martin (voiced by Sam Hodges). The cast also includes Lucas Neff, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Barry Rothbart, Siovhan Christensen, Ayden Mayeri, and Andrew Gorell.
The Carmichael Show is currently in its third season on NBC. The sitcom loosely inspired by star and co-creator Jerrod Carmichael’s family life and also features Amber Stevens West, David Alan Grier, Lil Rel Howery, and Loretta Devine.
According to Deadline, the cast’s contracts for both series expire on June 30th and so far neither have been renewed for another season. Does this mean both are cancelled? It’s unclear. Ratings for Downward Dog have been okay. So far, season one is averaging a .80 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.016 million viewers.
Meanwhile, ratings for The Carmichael Show have been steady for the past few seasons. Currently, season three is averaging a .80 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.668 million viewers. However, even with stable ratings, it’s unclear if NBC will renew The Carmichael Show for a fourth season or if ABC will give Downward Dog a second chance. Either way, the networks and the studios only have a few days to decide.

Please don’t cancel this show! It is creative, funny and entertaining. It doesn’t rely on canned laughter to convince you its funny. If you are a dog owner, Martin reaffirms what you’ve always known your dog is thinking.
Please dont cancel Downward Dog! It is refreshing, original, and a pleasant change from medical and police drama. Martin is a darling and all animal lovers can relate to him!

ABC: PLEASE renew Downward Dog! The series is a quiet gem!!!
Even though it really goes up against NOTHING, The Carmichael Show is averaging a 0.80, which NBC doesn’t consider bad anymore. They only have 13 episodes each season. I’m not a fan of the show, but if the show averaged a 0.80 in live ratings or higher at the end of the season and NBC dumped it, I would be surprised.

OMG DO NOT CANCEL DOWNWARD DOG! ABC you haven’t really given it a chance. Try giving it time in the fall, after football. This show is great! I love Martin, I love Nan, I love Nan’s awesome body and I love Lucas Neff. Do not be the network that only has stereotypical shows with model pretty people. If you can do Modern Family and American Housewife you can do Downward Dog. Pleeeeease!
OMG DO NOT cancel downward dog………….LOVE LOVE this show…………its relatable…entertaining …funny…great for dog lovers or not….and heartwarming………….and who doesnt love martin……yes the human cast is great but martin hes the scene steeler………….and he kind of reminds me of the cartoon character ziggy from the 70’s……………….please give this show another season…………ITS REFRESHING !!!!!
My husband and I are in love with this unique show that mirrors real life through the eyes of a loveable canine philosopher. Please Please Please keep this show going. It’s a breath of fresh air among a bunch of rather ho-hum sitcoms. Give Martin and Nan a chance!
Hooe Downward Dog is renewed.Its the rare exception to my anti sitcom rule. I actually watch this one. Yeah, you got me. I’m a dog not!
