Martin tells Nan’s story from the perspective of woman’s best friend. The comedy explores the ups and downs of modern-day human life, through the eyes of a devoted dog.
Nan is trying to negotiate a trying job, as well as her unfair, narcissistic boss, Kevin (Rothbart), while dealing with turmoil in her private life. Sometimes, the tumult distracts her from what Martin considers her priorities.
When he can’t have Nan’s undivided attention, Martin feels isolated and neglected and, as a result, acts out. Consequently, the two attend obedience school, which gives them a fresh perspective on the importance of their relationship.
Meanwhile, Nan is trying establish boundaries with her her ex-boyfriend Jason (Neff), while still retaining him as Martin’s dog walker. Rounding out Nan’s circle is her human best friend and co-worker, Jenn (Howell-Baptiste).

What do you think? Do you like the Downward Dog TV show? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I am very upset you took this show off the air. I loved it! It was funny quirky and original. I loved the way Martin thinks and how all the characters interacted. Ya’ll always take the good shows off the air. : (
I loved this show! Wish it would come back- was so much fun!
I liked this show. I was hoping that they would renew it but just found out it was cancelled.
I only saw the last half of the shoe… but I loved every moment of this dhoe!!!
It is so unique, intelligent, thought provoking, and incredible insight to human-ness and sensitivity.
I wish this show had been around when my kids were young — what a great teaching tool to show how the human condition affects us.
I just can’t say enough about how this show affected me. Funny galore, shows our frailties, on and on.
Just best show I’ve seen since ‘Bosom Buddies’ decades ago! The WRITING is what makes the show… GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really loved this show! So sorry it wasn’t renewed. Maybe some other channel will pick it up!
My family and numerous friends found Downward Dog a pure delight! We even
tried getting together to watch. Writing, acting, directing, top-notch making it
a much “to look forward to” experience. Among our acquaintances, we really
tried to recommend it. We thought the viewership was increasing as folks
tuned in. I hope the show’s producers will reconsider and give us another season
to build viewership. We have been looking forward to more episodes soon…
my husband asked me just today when it was starting up and he never asks
about network programming!!!?!??!!! Please don’t give up so soon.
I can’t believe this show is cancelled. It was my favorite. My friends love it; my daughters love it — even my husband loves it. It appeals to all ages. They have done it again — canceling the best and leaving junk on. I SO hope another network picks it up. Allison Tolman is great and the other performers are perfect with her. That dog — so doggy profound! I’m so sad. Please come back.
Disappointed was cancelled. We really enjoyed it. Funny, thoughtful and clever dialogue.
I loved this show and was SO looking forward to it coming back. It was just a really enjoyable show. It seems all the ones that are coming back are ones I am NOT interested in. There is so much crap on TV that this was a gem in my eyes. You made a mistake canceling this one.
I thought this show was really great. I looked forward to each episode. Was a wholesome tv experience and I’m really disappointed that the network didn’t see its value and at least give it a fighting chance to catch on. It was so muchbetter on many levels than most of the garbage on the ait today in my humble opinion.
I LOVED this show! I think it’s absurd that it wasn’t even given a chance! PLEASE SOMEONE PICK THIS SHOW UP!!!PLEASE!
I loved that show and couldn’t wait for a new season to start. I was very disappointed when I found out it wouldn’t be back. It was alot funnier and better than alot of the dumb shows on now!!! I love dogs and this was a great show. It made me cry and laugh both. I felt so sorry for Martin at times but then nan had a single women’s life, which made alot of since to me (since I am a single working woman). Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!
Jeannie

I’m so sad that this show was cancelled. It was an AWESOME show. They should bring it back on Netflix
I loved this show, it is a wonderful relief from a lot of the crap shows on,
all the cast is fabulous, story so entertaining, and Martin is the most lovable character on TV – Please bring it back, the world needs Martin!!
