A comedy based on the Animal Media Group web series, the Downward Dog TV show centers on Nan (Tolman), and is narrated by her philosophically inclined and rather forlorn dog, Martin (voiced by Hodges).
Martin tells Nan’s story from the perspective of woman’s best friend. The comedy explores the ups and downs of modern-day human life, through the eyes of a devoted dog.
Nan is trying to negotiate a trying job, as well as her unfair, narcissistic boss, Kevin (Rothbart), while dealing with turmoil in her private life. Sometimes, the tumult distracts her from what Martin considers her priorities.
When he can’t have Nan’s undivided attention, Martin feels isolated and neglected and, as a result, acts out. Consequently, the two attend obedience school, which gives them a fresh perspective on the importance of their relationship.
Meanwhile, Nan is trying establish boundaries with her her ex-boyfriend Jason (Neff), while still retaining him as Martin’s dog walker. Rounding out Nan’s circle is her human best friend and co-worker, Jenn (Howell-Baptiste).

What do you think? Do you like the Downward Dog TV show? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I’m so disappointed. This was a great show, seems as if it wasn’t really given much of a chance.
Love this show and it’s shot in Pittsburgh. How about it CW!?!?! Please pick up Downward Dog.
PLEASE don’t cancel this show! It’s unique, it’s funny, and the characters are the same. I’ve never commented about a show online, but this one needs more of a chance. I mean, if Two Broke Girls can go on for how long?!
Finally a show comes along that is original, funny & touching and it gets cancelled, unbelievable! Not all of us love reality shows or bad remakes of Dirty Dancing or Beaches…c’mon Hollywood, give us a break! Don’t cancel Downward Dog! (I went online initially to type a letter of praise when I saw the sad news of cancellation…just really sucks…)
My husband and I love Downward Dog. It is funny, thoughtful, unique – every thing we like in a television show. ABC should give it a real chance, not cancel it so quickly. Hopefully, another network will grab it up.
It’s a great show with a unique perspective
I am saddened by its demise
Hopefully another network will recognize the value of this show and pick it up
Let me know how I can participate to make this happen
I believe it should have been renewed. Many of my friends are hooked like I am. Despite its terrible time slot, this show has garnered a devoted following. I would like to see where it could go. I think ABC is crazy to kill it so soon.
Devastating news. My wife and I are animal lovers as all humans should be and finding that one of the best human/animal relationship stories is being cut, is one of the worst decisions ABC can make.
Downward Dog is fun! Why cancel a show that makes people laugh
Stunningly bad decision to cancel what is a popular show.
ABC – Always Being Cancelled.
Can we cancel some of the employees that make such decisions instead?
