Despite low ratings and being omitted from the CBS series renewal order in March, creator and executive producer Robert Doherty is still hopeful his Elementary TV show will not be cancelled. He’s so optimistic, in fact, that he included cliffhangers into the Elementary season five finale episode.
A CBS procedural crime drama, Elementary follows detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu). Also starring are Aidan Quinn as Captain Thomas Gregson and Jon Michael Hill as Detective Marcus Bell. The cast also includes John Noble and Nelsan Ellis.
TV Line reports Doherty is betting on a sixth season:
“I’m an eternal optimist,” Doherty tells TVLine. “I feel good. I feel like we’ve had a strong season. We’re certainly very pleased with the way it’s wrapping up. And trust me, there’s a lot of Elementary left in this humble writing staff. Many, many stories to come.”
Doherty adds that the Season 5 closer (airing Sunday, May 21 at 10/9c) was “absolutely” intended as “a season finale,” not a series ender. And if it does turn out to be the show’s swan song, viewers might be left without closure, seeing as how the episode features “a cliffhanger in a couple of respects.”
Elementary Season Five: A Look at the Ratings
The fifth season of Elementary is currently averaging a 0.67 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.94 million viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 30% and down by 14%, respectively.
Among other scripted CBS TV shows, Elementary ranks above only Doubt, which has already been cancelled, Training Day, which hasn’t been officially cancelled but will be, and Ransom. Although a renewal is not impossible, a sixth season of Elementary does not seem too likely.

NO ! Positively NOT ! We WANT Season 6, and agree with EP Doherty, that there’s plenty of more gutsy stories left to show ! C’mon, CBS, give us more of Johnny Miller, and Lucy Liu, and the great support actors who are making it work ! “Can” the other loser series, but give this one the place it deserves ! You know you can, we’re counting on you !

What do I think?
I think that the fact that CBS continually changes the broadcast time, skipped airing episodes for weeks at time, even moved to a different night — this kind of erratic programming makes it difficult for even the most committed fan of the show to even know when it will be on.
As far as ratings go, at the dreadful time CBS has scheduled it, it still is beating the competition on the other networks.
If Jonny and Lucy still wish to continue, I hope that CBS will renew, and give its viewers a break.
Will be so disappointed if Elementary is cancelled! Please keep it coming.

Please do not cancel Elementary! The acting, the writing & everything necessary for a hit is in this show! I guarantee that if the over 49’s were taken into consideration, the ratings would be higher!

Please renew this is a great show! I’ve never missed an episode. Please give it a different time slot though. The sports programs keep delaying or preempting the air time.
This is what accounts for the slipping in the ratings.
You never know what time the show will be on.
I think this show would do a lot better if C B S would put in a steady and consistent day and time slot, it seems to be constantly preempted because of a sports thing or some another event. They can’t have it both ways…..
The only reason ratings are lower is because it rarely comes on when it is supposed too. When there is golf or an NFL game, etc….it gets pushed back until much later and people have work the next day. It is a great show. I like it and I am 52 and my 20 year old daughter loves it.
One of my favorite shows. I find it intellectually challenging, well written and fun to watch.
Please renew this show!!! I realize it is not for the younger crowd but you have other people who are older and more intelligent who like this show. We need some programs also . Sunday is a terrible time for it as it is always being
moved in time due to other events . Give it a better time slot !
