It seems Dorothy Gale will return to Kansas. NBC has cancelled the Emerald City TV show. There will be no season two. The fantasy drama starred Adria Arjona, Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.
As usual, it comes down to the ratings. The first season of Emerald City on NBC averaged a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an audience of 3.02 million viewers. When you compare its ratings to those of other NBC TV shows, the cancellation is understandable.
Emerald City Cancellation Confirmed
While we have been anticipating the Emerald City TV show cancellation for a while, Variety confirmed it, last night.
Emerald City‘s yellow brick road to the airwaves was riddled with potholes. Production on The Land of Oz-inspired drama was supposed to begin in 2014. Although the network planned for a 2015 premiere, creative differences derailed the project.
The Peacock Network eventually reversed that decision. In April 2015, they brought on a new showrunner. Still, it seems they didn’t have much faith in Emerald City, since they scheduled it on Friday nights, and held the premiere until January 2017.
What do you think? Were you a fan of the Emerald City TV series? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed it for a second season? Let us know, below.
I really enjoyed watching Emerald City every Friday night, and was extremely upset when it ended. Please bring it back, please!!!!
SO DISAPPOINTED, ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS, Pick a better time slot and evening of the week and perhaps ratings will go up.
So upset… loved this show!
My boyfriend and I are very disappointed that it’s not coming back, I don’t normal follow shows as they air for the first time but I watched ever episode….i wish they would reconsider or at least have it avalible on a different channel or through netflix
USA Network should pick up this show. Keep the cast and crew. Bring on new producers with a strong track record.
I should have known it wouldn’t make it. Clever, not dumbed down and creative interpretations. One of 2 shows I watched on Friday night. And the other was Grimm…sad Friday nights now. Oh well, I’ll have to help PBS stay on the air.
Started watching NBC just for this show, hope it another network will pick it up.
Any chance of being picked up by Netflix or someone else. It was an interesting twist and perspective on the Oz series. I was looking forward to finding out more about the “Best Forever”. Really bummed.
I never watch television ever and this show was the first one in a long long time where I’ve been excited for each new episode. Should renew it or hand it off to someone who will.
I am super disappointed!!! I loved this show and they left us with a damn cliffhanger. There should be some unwritten rule that if the show ends with a cliffhanger and gets cancelled, the network owes the fans another season to resolve things.
I’m very disappointed! We really enjoyed this show. Really ticks me off when I think of some of the other CRAP that is still on.

I loved this show.I just started watching NBC because of show. I hope its picked up by another network. Friday is not the best timeslot for any new shows. NBC didn’t give it a chance. Move to another night you have 6 others.
I loved Emerald City. I am super upset with NBC for not giving it a decent time slot and put it on Thursday night instead of that stupid show Super Store that’s a waste of TV time. If you guys would give shows time to grab attention and give it a decent time spot and take in more that 18-49 year old people maybe you’d find more people are watching it. Hopefully some other medium will pick it up. I can only pray some one has more brains than your program director. Now the only thing I’ll be watching on… Read more »
It was an amazing show such an interesting twist. Would love to see it picked up by someone to finish the story.
I hope Amazon or Netflicks picks this up – it was an interesting twist on the standard story line.
