TNT‘s Falling Skies is set in the aftermath of an alien attack which has left much of the world incapacitated. As survivors band together to fight back, each day is a test of survival. And according to star Noah Wyle, making the series was no day at the beach, either. Wyle tells Digital Spy he is glad the series wasn’t cancelled in mid-season, so that the audience could get some “closure.” That said, Wyle also confesses that making Falling Skies was a real “slog.”
Before ending on August 30, 2015, Falling Skies ran for five seasons on TNT. The Falling Skies cast includes: Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Jessy Schram, Connor Jessup, Maxim Knight, Colin Cunningham, Sarah Carter, Peter Shinkoda, and Mpho Koaho. Read on for more from Wyle.
From Digital Spy:
“I’m proud that the show went to five seasons, I’m very proud of the character arc that I got the chance to play, and given some of the circumstances we worked in, it was miraculous that we were able to do it.”
Wyle described filming the series as a “slog”, adding: “It’s a very interesting show in that in five years we had six different showrunning writers so the voice was never singular, and as a result it always felt slightly fractured and fragmented, which put the responsibility to keep up a sense of continuity really on the actors, to give the narrative some kind of sensible shape.”
And he admitted that he’s relieved it’s over, saying: “I kind of have to be slightly politic and not show my actual enthusiasm about not doing it any more, but I’m pretty happy not to be doing it any more.
Wyle recurs on TNT’s fantasy drama, The Librarians. According to Digital Spy, he was able to contribute to five episodes of the current season two, versus only four during season one.
What do you think? Did you like the Falling Skies TV show on TNT? Do you think it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a sixth season?
I always enjoyed the show. I thought it had an interesting premise and appreciated what the actors brought to the screen in terms of keeping the “struggle” alive. Sorry to hear it was such a struggle to bring to life. I would have enjoyed a continuance of the series.
really enjoyed falling skies each summer. watched all episodes faithfully. it was very uneven at times and could have been outstanding but as noah said, continuity was an issue. i will miss not having it next summer but continue to watch the old episodes on subscription networks.
Falling Skies is a excellent show I can’t imagine why it ended like it did it could be going for many more seasons to go it was excellent and is excellent so maybe trying to think of a way to bring it back and continue it because it was it excellent show.
Falling Skies was still on T.V.? Wow. Thought that went to the dustbin of history years ago.
Very disappointed it ended like this. Final season should end with a complete mission or a failed mission.
Noah was at his best in falling skies,it is a disgrace that it had to end.because it was great.but the librarians isn’t as good as it was,so I don’t watch it any more .it’s not as good as falling skies.
Although my husband and I loved the show – the ending was severely lacking. Poof. Every bad alien dies? Wha? They’ve spent how many years attempting to kill these things off and one magic capsule disentigrates them all? Bull. I know they needed to end the series but why couldn’t it be more realistic? Turning pope info a bad guy was really unnecessary. They could have spent more time on other things. Maggie choosing To remove her spikes for Hal and then gal rejecting her only to ask her to marry him during an alien attack?! Who comes up with… Read more »
Loved the show, couldn’t wait for next episode each week. They came up with such new and awesome stuff season after season. It could have continued another season, there are always more aliens out there to want to end the world……..
I too am glad Falling Skies ended, the show should have given up the ghost 2 seasons ago. Now the problem is Noah Wyle is now ruining The Librarians.
Loved Falling Skies… I haven’t watched the last season yet (DVR’d) because I’m in China for a while but can’t wait to see how it ends. Everything has to end sometime and I hope it ends well. As for Noah Wyle, I think he is a very good actor and played this part very well. Loved him in ER but as for The Librarians, oh dear god what is he doing! I absolutely can’t watch this show! The premise is great but it’s like he’s on stupid pills! To each his own I guess! *Side note: If you’re going to… Read more »
I don’t watch a show based on ratings or that kind of crap. I watch what is interesting. Converting the Last Ship from nuclear holocaust to viral decimation, takes the original book and gives, if handled well many seasons of material to work with and enjoy. By the way…..I recommend you read the book. Wonderful! !!!
I stopped watching Falling Skies after the first season. I was looking for something more upbeat and light and fun but not really comedy.. something in the middle.. Found that in
The Librarians which Noah Wyle has helped produce and direct! Just the right mixture for me..
and it does help a lot that my favorite actor Christian Kane is in it too.. LOL ♥
Come back Falling Skies!!
I would have loved a season 6 IF they could have made a cohesive story out of it. Season 5 felt rushed in some places, way too slow in others. The ending they gave it wasn’t fitting for how much they needed to do. We didn’t see the march to DC or any of that. What would have been interesting–and could still be done via a movie or 2–would be to show the rebuilding of civilization and how different the world would have been after the invasion!
Noah is right on track. From the moment it premiered, it was a fractured-ized, excuse the bastardization of the words, but evey season at both beginning AND ending, one had the feeling of being “lost” some-where. Still, certain characters had to be sacrificed to tell a good story, which was often sad, but also, people had to change. I LOVED the programs, but I was under the impression that the producers had a det time schedule in mind, including Spielberg, but it got me a bit mad when the REAL soldiers like DAN, became a back seat character and Noah’s… Read more »
