The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

Yes I think The Family should have been given the chance for another season. I’m very disappointed. I loved it.
Not to mention everyone is tuning into HBO to watch the worldly popular Game of Thrones at the exact time that The Family airs. Switch the night, give us a full season, OR bring it back in season 2. If that’s not possible another network DEFINITELY needs to pick it up.

Maybe Netflix could give it go Its pretty good to do mini marathons with binging out an all.. so hopefully some ideas get floated an it gets resurrected like Aquarius was after it was given the ax after season one however I guess enough nose was made So may this contribute possibly to not getting burned by not getting to see Adams victory an back with his family there’s some questions unanswered because it was shot as season finale and aired as a series finale I feel they could of at least added another hour to bring Adam home the… Read more »
I’m usually more for the comedic television series and it typically takes a lot to get me watching a drama/thriller such as The Family. Having said that, this has been one of my favorite shows to watch. My wife and I look forward to watching it every week and now we are flat out angry. Thanks ABC. For nothing.
Okay…. I don’t get it… so I hadn’t been a dedicated watcher of anything on ABC for years until The Family which I loved! So disappointed in this decision..

Thought it was a great show, the least they could have done is finish the storyline, very upset that it finished like that after hearing the show was cancelled

I can’t believe ABC has cancelled this series! We looked forward to it each week. I thought the story line was brilliant and made for great TV. Who is doing the ratings? First CBS gets rid of The Good Wife and now this!
This is too bad. I’m following fewer network shows these days than ever. My favorites are either being cancelled or ending after long runs. I foresee canceling my cable soon and streaming the few things I still watch.
I am very disappointed that The Family has been canceled. We looked forward every week to watch this show. It was one of our favorites. ABC please reconsider your decision.
