The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

Very disappointed!!! This show was awesome and I’m bombed that ABC just left viewers hanging. This is my favorite show and I’m devastated that ABC didn’t renew it. This sucks!!!
Are you serious?! How can they cancel this? I just finished the last episode and I was so excited about a season 2 that I had to look up when it was coming out only to find out it’s cancelled? Disappointed doesn’t even do justice to what i’m feeling right now. I really hope that ABC changes there mind on this.

I can not believe that ABC has canceled the family! I’m very disappointed in ABC to whom I now call (A Bunch of Clowns) bad decisions are often made by TV stations, I’d really like to know who decides that the show should be canceled, because they should be fired. I’m so unbelievably saddened by this. I’ve invested time in this show & was looking very much forward to season 2 the actual home coming of Adam. The series finale?? This was a really great show, I am very disappointed to hear this! Bring it back, my Wife & I love this show. You can’t leave us with so many cliffhangers & so many stories unfinished. Bring it back!!!!! How do we campaign to bring it back?

I can’t believe ABC is settling the show with this unsatisfying and cliffhanging ending. That was not a series finale! This show has been so suspenseful. The least they can do is give it a real series finale to answer the lingering questions for the veiwers that have been loyal to the show. I agree with the comment that I won’t trust network shows anymore. It’s a little angering to be let down this way. It should have been a mini series all along. Bring it back or show a real series finale!
REALLY I MEAN REALLY, best cliffhanger of a show I’ve seen in a long long time. ABC totally screwed this up. Makes me not want to give new shows a try if you’re just gonna cancel them after one season. Geezzz who made this bad decision. I’m so mad right now. Stupid stupid stupid.

ABC you are making a big mistake by cancelling this series. This is an excellent show! You needed to do a better job by promoting it so more people would watch! Everyone who does watch it, loves it! Please either reconsider or hopefully another network will take it over!
