The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I am so mad they cancelled the tv show the family. They left you hanging. it was a great tv show. and with Adam being alive the show needed to end better. They keep putting on reality shows and the tv shows that are good they cancelled. I am very disappointed . I am getting sick of tv they cancel all the good shows and never give you a conclusion. Please bring it back it was a great show.
I am so disappointed this show is cancelled – it is the only miniseries I have watched and got excited about in over 30 years and I’m not kidding. Once I was hooked on it I got several friends and a few family members watching it as well and we all were just so excited for each Sunday night to see what was going to happen next. So hugely disappointed that it’s not coming back and we are not going to find out what happens next
I don’t even watch ABC but I watch this show. This show is a must see. For yall to just up and cancel the show makes makes ABC selfish. Looks like I’m tuning back into FOX. Way better shows.
Please don’t cancel #TheFamily it scared great show. Well written & acted. It kept me glued to my seat every week. Honestly I love Quantico too but if I had to choose I’d choose The Family over it. I honestly cried when I found out it was cancelled. All the shows I love get cancelled. I feel like ABC doesn’t care about its customers & yes we are customers not viewers. There are few compelling tv shows on and Family was one of them! Great characters, suspense, convincing acting… Please renew the show.

Please reconsider not cancelling the family. I have watched it from the beginning and love it. I’ve been on the edge of my seat every week. It’s a great show and I will miss it terribly. Sounds like I’m not the only one either, from the comments I’ve read. Please reconsider. Thank you. Jean V.
I think you should not cancel The Family you should thy it on a different night. I think it was one of the best new show this year . Please rethink you choice!
Don’t cancel! Oh goodness, this has by far become my favorite show. Ending the show on a cliffhanger like that just puts my undies in a wad! Come on ABC, don’t be like that. Just give it another run, apparently there are PLENTY of viewers! Bring on season 2 please!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a shame to cancel a great show. It takes a lot for me to stick with a show week to week, but this one had me from the beginning. Then finale show was awesome, only to find out its cancelled. Again what a shame !!!!
Should have been renewed. People over the age of 49 enjoy good television and are big spenders for advertisers. That is why we turn to Netflix and other sources for good television. Networks font ho e shows a chance.
It was so wrong of them to make this great show get everyone’s hopes up just to let us down please rethink this show being canceled this show reminds me of how to get away with murder never a dull moment always full of twists and turns its not fair to the loyal fans of the show for them to just leave everything unanswered
Why does ABC keep cancelling shows. I’m done with new shows coming to ABC. You all cancelled Blood & Oil which I loved & now The Family too? This show was amazing. I looked forward to it every week. I even got excited! I was bummed bc it was the season finale only to find out it had been cancelled. I’m so tired of amazing shows being cancelled. Please renew it! Oh BTW what’s up with Secrets & Lies? Why does that keep getting pushed back? Anyway I’ll keep watching my normal shows like Scandal, HTGAWM, Grey’s Anatomy & Quantico.
Please don’t cancel the show!! Some of us work at night so we have to wait to watch it the very next morning. One of the only shows on tv I look forward to each week.
I was disappointed to learn that ABC cancelled The Family. I really like it and was really looking forward to see how the season would end just to learn that it was the SERIES finale that I was watching. Too bad! Seems like ABC gives up pretty quickly on most of their dramas that don’t have a lot of frivolous sex and murder. Disappointing!
Please ABC do not cancel The Family!!! It has been the most enticing show I have seen in a long time. Was always looking forward to next week. Unfortunately I found out that it had been cancelled when I was searching for when season 2 would begin. You can’t leave your audience with that many unanswered questions. I hope ABC comes to their senses or another network picks up the show for season 2. I want to see Adam get his life back 🙁
