The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

What do you think? What do you want to happen in The Family TV series finale? Do you think it should have been renewed by ABC?

Very disappointed that this show was cancelled. Very suspenseful and real.
I watch very little TV as this kind of thing keeps happening! Dancing w/the Stars… barf! Bachelor….barf! I am sure a closure is already filmed, why not play it? The saddest thing is that ABC most likely NEVER looks at our comments!
Omg omg omg please please please someone start a petition to try and get someone to pick this amazing show up…hulu netflix anyone…..im sure there’s plenty of people like me who watched this on hulu…cable is a terrible way to judge tv shows….
Very disappointed that the show was cancelled. Really enjoyed it.
NONONO I LOVE THIS SHOW
I’m sick over this! One of the only series that kept you on an emotional roller coaster and at the edge of your seat. And to end it like this?? Secrets and Lies and now The Family?! What’s next ABC?
The reason ratings are so low is because most people don’t have cable anymore! I’ve been following this show on Hulu. If abc is getting rid of it Hulu should just pick it up. You can’t leave all that on a cliffhanger
Is ABC crazy! How can you cancel this show just when it was getting good? ABC has a very bad reputation for cancelling series with so many lose ends. No more watching any ABC series. That’s it for me?
My heart hurts….I am not a big TV watcher but one day found myself watching an episode of this show and LOVED IT! I too will never watch another ABC show again because this show was GOOD and I was so excited last night thinking about the next season. I had even convinced my husband to binge watch Season 1 so he would be ready for the new season….AND HE AGREED! 🙁
I feel the exact same way Felicia. I don’t watch a lot of TV, and so few that I follow, that this show had me in suspense all the time. It seems like every show I get hooked on gets cancelled, such as The Following, Stalker, Resurecction.
Myself as well! I don’t watch a lot of TV but looked forward to this show ever Sunday! No more ABC for me!
I am very disappointed also. I watch VERY LITTLE TV because of this kind of thing!
Dancing w/ the stars… barf! Bachelor….barf! This show was very compelling with great actors. Very unhappy! No closing either!!
Very disappointed that this show has been cancelled- why couldn’t it be moved to a different time slot. I’m tired of getting invested in an ABC show only to have it cancelled- I’m over ABC!!! Please reconsider!
Terrible decision!! What a good show. The writing and cast were excellent! Huge Dissapointment!
Please don’t cancel this one!!!!!!!!!
Noooooo, this is one of the BEST shows aired on ABC! Move it to a different time slot if you have to but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not cancel it! Very well written and if keeps you coming back!! Why would you cancel it?
Could this show be picked up by another network? I would really love to see what happens in season 2.
OMG How do you cancel a show and leave viewers hanging!!!!! I seriously will never get involved in an ABC series again!!! Why can’t you do the same thing you did with 666 Park Ave and bring back a few episodes in the summer to tie up loose ends!!!!!
