Last night, Starz aired the finale of their Flesh and Bone TV series. Has it been cancelled? Will it return for a second season?
Flesh and Bone revolves around the artists who are part of New York’s American Ballet Company (ABC). It explores both the dysfunction and the glamor of the world of ballet. The large cast includes Sarah Hay, Ben Daniels, Irina Dvorovenko, Sascha Radetsky, Raychel Diane Weiner, Emily Tyra, Josh Helman, Damon Herriman, Tina Benko, Karrell Williams, Patrick Page, and Tovah Feldshuh.
The cable channel ordered Flesh and Bone as a regular TV series back in January 2014. After the eight episodes were filmed, it was decided to make Flesh and Bone a “limited series” instead. No script or footage changes were made as it was felt that the season finale could work as a series finale. Starz CEO Chris Albrecht later said that he didn’t expect there to be a second season.
In November, co-star Radetsky was asked by TVLine if he felt there was closure in the final episode. He said, “I think it could go either way. It’s a standalone series, but [creator] Moira’s [Walley-Beckett] always thinking and she’s creating new storylines, so there’s certainly room for more to be explored.”
When asked if he’d be open to coming back to do a second season, Radetsky said, “Yeah. [But] I don’t think it’s even a remote possibility that it’s going to happen. I think everyone’s really thrilled with it as a standalone season and have moved on.”
While Starz could decide to revive Flesh and Bone for a second season at some point, there hasn’t been any talk of it yet.
What do you think? Are you satisfied with the ending of Flesh and Bone? Would you have watched a second season?
No, don’t bring it back. It was a heart-stopping show, close to perfection…as was the finale. Answering questions like “will Romeo be accountable for Bryan’s murder?” or exploring Paul’s bi-polar disorder would do nothing but drive this breathtaking show into soap opera territory. It was about Claire’s journey and, in the final scene, she summed it up in one word “No.”
I would LOVE to watch a 2nd season! The dancing was amazing! The “characters” were complex, likable and interesting. There were so many interesting story lines introduced in Season 1 that could be developed in a 2nd, 3rd..season. It really felt like this deep story was cut short in the finale. I’d definitely want to see more!
I would very much want to watch a second season.
Great series, beautiful ballet dancing, good acting. I would love to watch the second season, it would be very interesting
No! The show cant end that way that was a season finale not a series finale I have so many questions.
Please, please, please, please make another season. I thought the show was terrific!!
This is a travesty…I loved this weird series. I don’t think that it ended with questions answered. What happens to Romeo now that he has killed Bryan. Will Kira stay retired since Claire has come on strong as the prima ballerina? Will Toni take notice to Pauls neuroses about her ballet being better than his?
So many questions. Please don’t let it end yet.
Yes….please!!! One of the best series!!
I fell in love with this series! Am SO hopeful they will bring it back for Season 2! There are so many unanswered questions, I agree it is a very compelling drama and the dancing is mesmerizing, she makes it seem so effortless and graceful. There is so little to watch on cable lately and this was so compelling I find myself wanting to go back and watch the episodes all over again rather than the usual fare you find on cable. Please bring it back for Season Two!!!
Fantastic series! Please don’t end it, however hopefully, with so many questions longing for further examination……..can she overcome the deep psychological wounding that has disabled her preventing her from being “real”? Can Paul see through the distorted mirror of his own flawed perception and turn away from those false gods that distort his reality? It was dark…reminding me of The Black Swan…a very compelling human drama juxtaposed with the unbelievable excellence of the American Ballet Co as they achieve artistic freedom through unwavering discipline!
They have just scratched the surface.
It is a mesmerizing,unique show.
I for one want more, I need so many answers to feel satisfied.
The actors are superb not withstanding their exquisite Ballet prowess.
Please don’t cancel this show. It is the best thing out in the vast vapid mostly, current shows.
With 2 Golden Globe nominations, Best actress and Best Limited Series, it would seem strange they wouldn’t go for another season…
Yes!!! There should be a second season!!, It left me with so many unanswered questions, its not fair to continue. Please PLEASE make another series, I talk about it to my friends, I think theyre into too now…:)
Yes I absolutely think there should be a second season. There is so much more that can come from this show. I am totally disappointed that there may not be second, third, fourth seasons.
Great show, showcasing ballet, and the story line if several people, bring it back please
