Though Forever has been struggling in the ratings, ABC has ordered nine additional episodes, bringing the first season tally to 22 installments.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner is Doctor Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd). He can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out how or why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The show debuted in late September and got off to a poor start, following the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars on a Monday night. It attracted a 1.5 rating with 8.26 million viewers. The following night, in its permanent timeslot, the demo rose to a 1.8 rating but viewership dropped to 6.62 million.
In week two, the ratings tumbled to a 1.4 in the demo with 5.66 million. In week three, they fell even lower and the numbers have been hovering around a 1.1 rating with fewer than five million viewers.
While Forever can hardly be considered a ratings success, the network apparently feels its performing well enough to be given some more time. They may also not have anything better to put into its place.
The show also sees significant percentage gains in the Live+7 reports, an indication that people are watching Forever but it’s not “appointment television.” ABC recently touted that Forever saw an 82% boost in the Live+7 ratings for October 14th — going from a 1.1 rating to a 2.0 rating. That seems impressive but it’s important to remember that all the rest of ABC’s shows (ones with better “live” ratings) also saw big boosts. For example, that week’s How to Get Away with Murder bumped from a 2.8 to a 4.9 demo rating.
In the long run, unless the ratings improve, it’s hard to imagine that Forever will see a second season.
But, what do you think? Have you been watching Forever? Do you think it’s a better show than what the ratings seem to indicate?
Awesome show. Please extend to a second season
I totally agree with Michael R HAAHEIM. I looked forward to every Tuesday night that Forever aired. After seeing last night’s season finale I fear ABC will cancel it if they haven’t done so already.
Last night (Apr. 21st) was NOT the Season 1 Finale. There is one more episode that will air on May 5th. THAT is the Season 1 Finale. Don’t want you to miss it because, according to Matt Miller, the creator/producer/head writer, it will be an AWESOME episode to end Season 1. We “FOREVER” fans have been working very hard to convince ABC to RENEW “FOREVER” FOR SEASON 2. There’s a Petition for you to sign and we’ve been relentlessly Tweeting ABC and sending them tons of Snail Mail and E-mails to their on-line site, as well as posting on F/B.… Read more »
Forever is an outstanding series with an excellent concept, carried out solidly, and with very competent acting. It is not a mindless action adventure, which probably explains its lackluster ratings considerably… it is an intelligent show targetting an intelligent audience. Television has a rather noxious habit of turning its back on good programs thatdraw a faithful audience. Yes, I understand that broadcast companies are in the industry to make money… but they will NEVER make their full potential if all the companies put all their efforts into fighting over the same demographic group, while ignoring all the minority demographic groups… Read more »
It is the only prime time program that I consider a must. Story line and acting is excellent.
Deserves a second season!
Love this show!
Please keep this show.
Bizarre that it’s struggling. It’s a great show, one of my favourites.
It must be renewed!
I love the show. Please renew. It’s a great show!
I watch this show every week I like shows that actually have a story line.
Sick, sick of reality shows which are not really reality Problems may be
that they were opposite Covert Affairs which used to be on Thursdays.
Keep this show on
This show is amazing, it is insightful, witty and intriguing, it is far more fascinating and entertaining than most of the shows ABC has to offer. If we give up intelligent television just because reality TV and game shows are so much cheaper, then we can just expect to see the end of quality television all together because networks care only about the bottom line and care nothing for the satisfaction of their viewers, if Forever is cancelled I personally will have no reason for viewing the station at all.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!
I was surprised to hear it was struggling. I watch it right after Marvel’s Agents of Shield.
Please keep this show – it is fantastic!!
Absolutely love Forever. It is “appointment TV” for my family well acted, good story line, super cast. Keep it on!
don’t take this show off. this is one of the better shows on tv right now. all the good shows have been canceled. all to be replaced by crappy reality shows, that in my opinion SUCK. what have we become as a society if all we want to see is a bunch of immoral idiots talking trash. this is a good wholesome show. one of my favorites. plus we want to see if Henry discovers what caused his “curse”!!!
