Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
Typical of the short shortsightedness of Television executives. Something outside the square something not a run of the mill cop show, something that makes you think of the afterlife is too hard to sell. I thought that the era of cancelling unique shows after one season ended in the 1970’s.Guess I was wrong.
I’m so sorry about Forever’s cancellation. This is one of the few shows on network TV that I’ve watched. It’s so well written, cast and acted…It’s head and shoulders above most of the other shows that are renewed year after year. The cast had such great chemistry, particularly Ioan Gruffudd and Judd Hirsch, and they are both such tremendous actors. It would be wonderful if another network or channel would pick the show up and give it another chance. What a mistake ABC has made.
What is the point in watching new shows from the US when you guys are forever cancelling them after just one season? It can take longer than that for a show to take off, people have to learn the characters and really get into it, that takes time. Is there a rule that to run a TV station you have to be an idiot with no patience? First Firefly, then Intelligence and now this. Plus Terra Nova, that was filmed out here but pretty sure the Americans actually made the show
I think it is a big wrong decision made by ABC totally. I heard that the reason why this show can’t get popular in large number of audience is because it was showed in poor time with poor advertising. I can’t describe my feeling. This is a truly fantastic show that I have watched. I am so disappointed. Really really disappointed. That’s all. I wouldn’t say anything.
A shame, it has reached a stage where I do not turn on the tv at all or watch college girl softball games or football reruns. Is the stupidity and insipidness of day time tv going to be the new fare–mare informational tv will be our future
Horrible, Horrible decision. ABC just lost many, many viewers including me!! Goodbye.
Brilliant–just Brilliant. ABC cancels 1 one best shows on Television. What morons came up with this decision? Is there not 1 brain combined in all the “Powers” at the head of this studio? You give us 1 season of a uniquely intelligent show–then pull it off. So what piece of fluff or something to insult our intelligence do you plan to replace this show? Maybe a Game Show? Nope, that’s been tried. OK how about a reality show? Like some bachelor has a choice of 20 screeching, screaming, hair pulling women or men show? Nope–that’s been tried too. I have… Read more »
Unbelieveable to stop this show! Believe it or not, m It was a wonderful story line and could be quite interesting now that Jo knows the truth. I certainly hope that another network or the internet channels will look at picking it up. If “The Mindy Project” can find a home, a quality show like this should be able to find someone. ABC….you throw so much junk at us each season. You put it in a terrible time slot for time caliber of show. I had to watch it online most times. I know reality is cheap, but come on.
I am very upset that Forever was cancelled! I loved the storyline and the actors were amazing! I was looking forward to Henry and Jo maybe getting together. A lot of the other TV sitcoms are so stupid and NOT funny at all. Most of them are embarrassing . ABC doesn’t know a good show when it has it!
I think we should all stop watching any of the ABC, CBS, and NBC shows altogether. They in unison have cancelled a total of 20 shows like these leaving its viewers hanging with no finales and its apparent that no matter how much we enjoy these shows they will continue to do the same with any and all new shows they may air. Why bother watching them at all if they will be canceling them anyways? We all get hooked on them and then they pull them with no consideration for the viewers they do have. At least they should… Read more »
I agree Crina………… I certainly was hooked to this show and looked forward to watching it every Tuesday night! Shame on ABC for not renewing our favorite show!!
So sad that the networks are dictated by a particular demographic. On that basis we will soon be left with nothing but reality shows, cooking shows & commercial breaks.
Forever was an entertaining, fun & intelligent show with some excellent actors. Not to mention the rarity of being a show that could be shared with the family.
Agreed!
Forever has been a great show and should be renewed for season two
I am extremely upset with ABC for cancelling “Forever”. I have been enjoying this show and have been watching seen the first show. I wish you would reconsider your decision. This show is entertaining and teaches history without being boring. If you are concerned about the 18 to 39 demographic figure out how to get them to put down there I-pod, Smart phones, etc… Just because I am now 57 years old I still watch TV and should be able to enjoy what is on, instead of being bombarded with silly reality shows that aren’t based in reality. Be the… Read more »
I am 44 years young and truly enjoyed watching this show every Tuesday without fail! And am terribly disappointed with ABC decision to cancel the show! I wanted Henry and Jo to wind up together!
This was such a great show!! I’ve got to agree with everyone else, clearly idiot are running this network! I am so disappointed that ABC cancelled Forever.
I already had to watch my episodes on Hulu because of the stupid time slot. Hopefully Hulu or Netflix will see what a great show this could be and pick it up.
I am extremely disappointed that Forever has been cancelled. It was such an intelligent show with very likeable characters. What perplexes me even more than the decision to cancel the show is why the ratings were low? Everyone that I talked to about the show really liked it IF THEY HAD SEEN IT. Maybe most people never tried it. I check the ratings on network TV shows frequently and wonder about their correctness. I know cable has siphoned off a lot of viewers but some of the low ratings on some good shows just seem odd. I certainly hope Ioan… Read more »
