Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
I am beyond disappointed to hear that FOREVER has been cancelled! What an intelligent concept with well rounded, interesting characters. The final episode showed an exciting, well planned execution for taking care of Henry’s arch nemesis with the promise of finally sharing his secret with a woman he has grown to care for deeply. Give the show a chance to catch on by giving it another season! Just because there isn’t flatulent humor to satisfy those 18 year olds doesn’t mean the show should be taken off the air!
I am VERY upset that Forever is not being renewed! It was unique, had great scripts and a great cast! If ABC isn’t smart enough to keep it, maybe another network could pick it up.
Maybe they’ll change their mind – Wasn’t Nashville cancelled after the first season, and then they decided to bring it back, bigger and better? Hopefully, someone will see the error in their ways and decide to bring it back.
AMEN! To each and every one of these comments. The networks have lost their minds. The programming in most cases is beyond pathetic and exploitive, and the minute a decent show that requires a brain with thought-provoking content hits the airwaves–you can rest assured it will be gone in a blink. How sad a commentary we leave for the rest of the world. Is there any doubt as to why other countries have no respect for us anymore? This is one example–albeit a small one–as to why! Personally I am fed up with all TV in general. TNT is no… Read more »
i wonder if abc would pay attention if i started a facebook site called keep forever on the air
I think they are out of their minds. This show was awesome and had fantastic story’s to go with it. I just think they should renew the show and let see how season 2 turns out.
I am extremely disappointed that Forever has been cancelled. It was an intelligent show with very likeable characters. Both entertaining and teaches history. If Ihdo guess I woul say the Tue 10pm timeslot killed this show. I hope ABC reconsiders and tries moving it to a more favorable day and time.
Um, ABC? Are you sure you are making sense, cause many people on here are complaining that it was such a good show, stupid rates, maybe a good channel will pick it up, or, Forever could be revived. And then what happens? ABC just cancel good shows and leaves us with the most crappy ones like Galavant (sorry to whoever likes it but Forever is better) just because they have higher ratings? And the thing is, this stuff won’t get changed. Because nobody from ABC WANTS to look at these comments. If you ask me, we have to get in… Read more »
I thing ABC is totally out of their minds! Just because their rating are low? How do they figure the ratings? They should judge by the number of fans being so vocal about how much they love the show. I am sick of mindless drivel! I hate reality shows! I am sick of the low moral character of the others. The only shows I watch on regular TV are Resurrection & Sleepy Hollow (when they’re on), NCIS, NCIS: LA, Forever, & occasionally The Flash & Arrow when the other shows are reruns. I love shows that make you think. There… Read more »
I so totally agree forever was my favorite show of the night!!!!!!!!!!!

Contact ABC http://site.abc.go.com/site/contactus.html
FYI: On the “contact us” webpage, Forever isn’t even included in the show list you have to pick from (yet shows that have been cancelled for years were still there), and I couldn’t get the page to work anyway. And the “feedback” page doesn’t offer COMPLAINT as one of the Subject choices. I’m pretty sure they don’t want to hear from us.
If they took it off, they must have just done it, because I was able to make a comment about an hour ago.
Yes, I was able to leave a comment on the “feedback” page, although as I said the choice of Subject is very limited and does not include complaints. It is the “contact us” link above that does not display Forever in the Show/Category list.
I’m note sure how folks are missing this.
Go to abc.com
Scroll to the bottom of the web page and click the contacts link
Choose One: Select ABC Programming Feedback
Select Show or Category: Pick Forever,
For the subject I picked Why I liked this show and went on from there.
Thanks so much for that website info! Went there and left my “remarks”. LOL!
You’ve got to be kidding me, this was by far my favorite show. Shame on you ABC.
They just have to save Forever it is a great show. Somebody start a petition. Forever forever!
And here we are….Obviously, for once we have a serie without excessive blood, stereotyped characters, unecessary sex & nudity every five minutes, and having his heroes got killed, it got cancelled. Its time to worry about what want the average audience
That’s a pity, and very sad for the great actors and their performance
Cancelled based on some stupid rating system that does not take into consideration that the Television viewers today are worldwide! ABC wake up and give Forever Fans around the world another chance to enjoy the best TV show aired in years! Very bad publicity for ABC, but I guess they don’t care what the rest of the world thinks, why should they? It is obvious that ABC lets a box do their thinking for them!
It`s a shame to cancel such a great show as Forever. In my opinion it should have teen renewed for another season…
i think forever was the best new show of the season and i am really upset that there will not be a second season .i really enjoyed the show and the acting was great
I pretty much assumed, since it was one of the most entertaining, and intelligent shows on the network, and of course they left us with a nice cliffhanger and all, that it would not be coming back. UGH! I have been trying to find any news on it for weeks now, and can’t say I was shocked. I mean, we have to make room for more extended episodes of reality tv shows that I will NEVER watch, by getting rid of the good programs that I never miss, right?
And…another one bites the dust. Lots of people , that I know, enjoy ‘Forever’. To find that it is now cancelled, no Season Two, is frustrating. The acting is excellent;the writing very, very good; the concept is fascinating. There are no vampires, no superheroes, no zombies…..Oh, that’s why it has been cancelled!!! It figures. I too, as I have read other people say, am getting fed up with television . Tired of reality shows, other than Amazing Race, tired of ridiculous people like the Kardashions (sp?) being brought back, over and over and over again.Give intelligent people a break for… Read more »
