Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
FOREVER….great!!! I absolutely think that ABC were wrong to not continue with this light hearted, fun, capturing entertainment series. The cast were brilliant, the idea of the show was great and it is such a shame to not continue with programs like this that as Gary stated…do not contact awesome (a word banned in our house), no swearing and that all the family could watch and follow.
We loved forever.
My Husband and I Loved the show and are very disappointed. It had some great actors/actress in it and was all around a great show. I can’t believe there are other shows that are still going on with so much less appeal but this show couldn’t get picked up for the second season; seriously?
i loved this show and was looking forward to revealing his secret to the detective.
I can’t say I know the criteria for ending or renewing a program but surely this show has better
Ratings than some of the shows already renewed… Please don’t go the way of Firefly.
Thanks from a concerned fan…
Forever is/was a fantastic show, one of best on tv today. I only watched three shows on a regular basis because all the other shows are nothing but sex, drugs, reality. I never missed a show except when they changed days without much notice. It took me a week to find the day of the week they moved it. I have been waiting all summer for it to come back on the air. We want “forever” back. Cancel some of these stupid reality shows, they are all garbage anyway. Rottoning people’s brains with a bunch of ridiculous nonsense. I loved… Read more »
It is a shame they discontinued the series. Can’t I understand why the low rating. Hope they try a second season.
No one cancels Judd Hirsch! ABC made a huge mistake!!!
ABC executive make decisions on the 18-49 demographic and they do not appear to be interested in any other viewer. This was a good show. Ioan Gruffudd and Judd Hirsch were great in their.roles of a father who doesn’t die while watching his son grow to old age knowing one day he will lose his son while continues to live. I agree with the person who said that to ask that this show be continued is equivalent to “screaming into the wind”. In the end, it’s all about the ratings, not viewer interest.
Not a happy camper, this was my favorite show. I’ve been waiting patiently for season 2 to start. What am I going to do now? Please bring this show back now!
I guess we could go on and on about this ridiculous cancellation, but since no one has stepped up to the plate to take this project on, I feel we are screaming into the wind.
It’s just a shame a super show that had such great potential for so many story lines had to be shut down.
Although there is always hope. Look at the show Prison Break. After six years off the air, it is returning to TV. Loved that show as well.
I can’t believe they canceled the show. The writing was excellent the acting was great, they should’ve moved it to a better time slot and as was said earlier drop some of the reality shows their mind numbing. Forever was a show that had a lot of intrigue and romance and even a little bit of wonder. You don’t get that in most of today’s television, it’s all reality shows reality shows.
My wife and I really enjoyed the show. We had to watch it on demand TV because it was on so late (hint). I don’t see why you don’t cancel some of those mind numbing reality shows and keep the decent shows that are not all sex and swearing.
I love forever I want it to stay on!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife and I enjoyed the show very much. Not to many shows these days peaks our interest like Forever did. We were looking forward to its return only to find out it had been canceled. We are very disappointed.
I loved this show and looked forward to it every week. I am not a fan of reality TV, so this show was refreshing and entertaining. Every other word spoken wasn’t “amazing or “awesome” and sexual innuendo was not the meat of the story lines. Hopefully, a “smart” network like TNT or USA will pick up this show. ABC tends to air shows that appeal to an audience that is simple of mind.
