Updated with the latest ratings for Grown-ish.
There’s a lot of data that Freeform execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are a major factor. Here’s an updated listing of all of their recent/current primetime scripted shows.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also view them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released (usually a day or so after the broadcasts). The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
The demo numbers, which are typically most important to the broadcast networks, aren’t quite as vital to cable channels because their audiences are usually much smaller. Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
Shadowhunters has been renewed for a season 2.
Recovery Road is the best new show I have seen in years, I can’t wait for season 2. I call it a dramedy. It has something for everyone but it’s intriguing plot lines and a stellar cast. You just can’t help falling in love with it.
Is there a season 2??
What the heck ?!?!?! I came home early to watch Shadow Hunters & it’s not on!!!!!!
It should have been. It was on for me. Did you have the correct channel? At the correct time for where you live? (9 pm EST and PST and 8 pm central).
Recovery Road is a wonderful new show for young people as well as old there are no shows like this. This will help more people understand the what people go through in recovery this needs a second season amazingly written with a amazing cast absolutely love this show!
Most likely won’t get one though. Unless Freeform is desperate (which they very well might be with how low their live viewing numbers have been). The ratings are horrid.
Pretty Soon no scripted show will be able to survive on this channel… Ever since they changed their name to Freeform all of their shows have lost viewers… Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, Baby Daddy, and Young and Hungry which are all returning series are drastically down this winter in the amount of viewers. New Show Recovery Road hasn’t even pulled in an episode that had 500K viewers yet, the other new series Shadow hunters Premiered with 1.82 million viewers and last nights episode only had 0.84 viewers so its just about lost one million viewers!! Does anyone else see… Read more »
Actually, considering Shadowhunters has been pretty steady around .4 in demos for the past 6 episodes, it will probably get renewed. Live viewers don’t matter as much as demo numbers do. It’s currently receiving the second highest on the network.
I’m trying to watch a movie & I counted 17 yes 17 commercials during break. Are you serious??????? Officially I will no longer watch this station. There are so many other choices. “Freeform” is not the only 1 bombarding us viewers & thank goodness I can make a wise choice NOT to view any longer.
Wise up & cut the commercials or continue losing viewers.
Well, that would be because that’s where their money comes from. It’s like that with all basic cable networks.
I love the show, (Shadow Hunters) it’s one of three new shows that have caught my eye (not on a streaming service). This show, The Shannara Chronicles and The Magicians are all really cool, if more people would give them a look see many would agree with me. My opinion, thanks …
I have a question for admin, okay so if you record a show does that count into their ratings? Or if you watch it on Hulu? Because I do either of those with most shows because usually I either am busy or sleeping when it first airs and also you can skip commericals for the most part. If it doesn’t count, it could be a factor in why a lot of show’s ratings go down because a lot of people may do this as well now.
If you’re part of a Nielsen household, your viewership is counted in the ratings. If not, it isn’t. Hulu viewership isn’t part of the ratings right now but viewing is tracked. However, advertisers pay far less for Hulu ads so those numbers aren’t as influential.
Why does The Fosters come before Shadowhunters in the first chart even though Shadowhunters averages more live viewers than The Fosters at this point in time?
Why is the Fosters second in the first chart when Shadowhunters averages more live viewers and higher demo numbers?
Hello, Since “Melissa & Joey” and “Chasing Life” end like last summer or fall can you please put them in the older shows (for comparison) section to make it less crowded in the table of current shows! Thanks a lot!
Shows stay in the recent section for about a year after they ended.
Can’t believe they cancelled Chasing Life! They really need to bring it back! They keep cancelling all the good shows. It makes me not want to watch abc family/freeform anymore.
I LOVE YOUNG&HUNGRY !!!!!! I needs a little bit more promo to get the ratings up
Does anyone know when the Fosters come back back on??!!!
1/18/16
The Fosters will return back on tv some point in Steptember or October
Should definitely bring chasing life back. I love that show.
