After a disappointing debut last spring and a lackluster summer run, many were surprised that FOX kept The Good Guys on the fall schedule. In hindsight, FOX execs may be wondering why they did as well.
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
The May premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It. Not a good start.
Over the summer, airing on Monday nights, Good Guys only mustered an average of a 1.2 rating in the demo and 4.01 million total viewers. FOX decided to cut the run short in August and saved the remaining new episodes for the fall season.
Unfortunately, Good Guys has been performing even worse this fall. The first episode attracted just a 0.9 demo rating and 2.8 million viewers. The ratings have fallen even lower since then, consistently placing in fifth place for the timeslot. Last Friday, viewership dropped 25% in the demo, hitting an all-time low with a 0.6 demo rating.
FOX has six episodes of Good Guys left and, understandably, there’s been no word about the network ordering any more. With ratings like these, the network will either pull the remaining episodes or just let them run out. Either way, it’s impossible to imagine that Good Guys won’t be cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Good Guys? Why have people been watching other things on Friday nights? Anything you would change about the show?

i LOVE the Good Guys they are one of the highlights of my week. We record it so qwe wont miss it. Please keep ot going!
When all we get is Cop Shows that fill the screen with bloody horror it is a pleasure to find one that is made for the fun of it. No hidden messages, just plain fun. I know it is all about the ratings. I just don’t know why more people aren’t watching it. I didn’t like the move to Friday nights. That is a dead night along with Saturday. Who stays home.
Save the Show!
highly enjoyable show. whitford is an absolute hoot! fox, keep this show and lose some of those mindless “reality” shows.
My husband and I love this show. It has a great cast and is very entertaining. I hope it survives. We look forward to watching it each week.
Fantastic show! One of the only shows I make a point to watch. I never see ads for this show but well known and always renewed shows dominate the commercial scene. There are some terrible shows on Fox. The Good Guys was not one of them. Fox has no idea how to promote clever and intelligent shows such as this. They took another great show and ruined it’s potential with their mismanagement. Move it all around the schedule board, never talk about it and then wonder why the ratings aren’t there. Well how can they be if no one knows… Read more »
The characters are funny, witty and devilishly sly (Dan Stark). I love the interaction of the characters, the time jump for the back story. I also enjoy Dan’s over the top, disarming way of solving a case. His brilliance is masked by an air of incompetence that hides from everyone but his partner how truly “on it” he really is for each case. Cancelling the show would be a mistake. It is a show that crosses generations. My sons and I enjoy it for the same reasons. Stick with it and it will pay off.
We all love this show and will really miss it if it doesn’t come back on. It’s very entertaining! What is wrong with FOX that they can’t hold onto shows like this and promote them a little more so people will watch?
The good guys is definitly my families favorite show. We look forward to it the whole week, and I can’t believe it could possibly go off the air. My other favorites are Chuck, Human Target, and Burn Notice. I hope Good Guys will just go to another station
This is one of the funniest shows on TV right now. My wife and I look forward to seeing it each week. Bradford and Hanks are an awesome comedy team that deserve to have a better timeslot than 8pm (Central) on a Friday night. Please FOX don’t cancel this show! If you must, at least hand it off to another network that will give it the chance it deserves.
Please don’t cancel this!! It is easily the funniest show on tv, and deserves a different night (or whatever it takes) to keep it on the air. The acting and writing is the best!!
Great series PLEASE don’t cancel !
This show is great. Even my wife likes it and she only watches 3 or 4 shows. It will be a shame if it is cancelled.
Bradley Whitford is unbelieveable in this. He should be nominated for an emmy. Colin Hanks and and Jenny Wade make up my favorite couple on TV.
The Good Guys is the best thing to happen to Fox and televison as a whole in a long long long time. I am sure to have a good belly laugh every episode. It is hilarious and Dan & Jack make a great comedy team. Fox execs need to wake up and give it a time slot that will work. I love the show – but catching the Friday at 9:00pm time slot is tough. Fox needs to move it to a decent day and time and it will prove to be a winner for them.

As the saying goes, “If you like a show, it will soon be cancelled.” The Good guys is by far one of the funniest fresh shows on the tube. Remember, “Cheers” wasn’t well recieved in its first year or so and it was a time slot change that made it work. Please reconsider. Detective Dan Stark makes this show and Bradford’s portrayal is awesome. My two cents….
Love the show. Its different and funny. Please don’t cancel
