It wasn’t a positive return for Serena and friends. The season premiere garnered a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with just 1.37 million viewers. That’s a year-to-year decline of 30% in the demo and 26% in viewership. Other than Friday night’s Nikita, this was the weakest scripted premiere of the season and not a good sign for the show’s future.
Reference point: The 2010-11 season averaged a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.65 million viewers.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

I have been a Gossip Girl fan since the books first came out and it pains me when I see how far down hill this show has gone. Ridiculous story lines, couples that simply dont make sense. Some things you just don’t do. Despite the need to bring up your ratings. Seasons 1 & 2 were the best by far and I thought the show should of been cancelled after season 3 when it first began its downward spiral. The actors are great. It’s the writers. You can’t have gossip girl without Jenny Humphrey and Chuck and Blair.
