It’s no secret that Gracepoint on FOX is really struggling in the ratings. While we know that there’s no chance the series will be back for a second season, it looks like the show may not be on Thursday nights for long either.
Gracepoint begins when a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach in the small northern California town of Gracepoint. The tragedy and media frenzy soon turns neighbor against neighbor as the police try to figure out what happened. The cast includes David Tennant, Anna Gunn, Michael Peña, Virginia Kull, Madalyn Horcher, Kendrick Sampson, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Kevin Rankin, Sarah-Jane Potts, Stephen Louis Grush, Kevin Zegers, Jessica Lucas, and Nikolas Filipovic.
The show is currently FOX’s lowest-rated scripted series in the coveted 18-49 demographic. It’s averaging a poor 1.0 rating with 4.09 million viewers.
The November sweeps period starts next Thursday, October 30th, and runs through November 26th. It’s important for the network financially to get as many people tuning in to their programming as possible between those dates.
As a result, it’s very likely that FOX won’t keep poorly-rated Gracepoint on the regular schedule for much longer. I suspect that they will soon announce that the series is moving to Saturday nights. Here’s why:
On the Hell’s Kitchen Facebook page, the network has posted a couple graphics that indicate that the show can be seen on Thursday nights — except the reality series currently airs on Wednesday evenings. If Hell’s Kitchen is moving to Thursdays, it’s most likely to replace struggling Gracepoint and not Bones.
Last week, the network re-aired the first two episodes of Gracepoint on Saturday night. Sports programming will fill the next two Saturday schedules. I suspect that FOX will resume airing repeats and then new episodes of Gracepoint after that — likely in pairs — until all 10 installments have run.
On the positive side, at least the network will air all of the remaining episodes and the small audience will be able to see the mystery solved.
What do you think? Do you think FOX will burn off the remaining episodes on Saturday nights? Will you still watch them if that happens?
I like this show. I hope it is not replaced!
Look forward to it every Thursday.
gracepoint is the slowest moving tv series i have ever seen. just wrap it up and end the pain.
Too funny Eleanor. I agree with you. It’s ok but geez I really believe these people that rave about it just have to be related to someone connected with the show.
Also, just because I am curious about the conclusion, I will watch it to the “bitter end”, with the emphasis on BITTER.
me too!!!!!!! lolol
I really like Gracepoint. Of course, I am not in the 19-49 demographic so I don’t count. I am 65.
I really enjoy it too. I think it’s a very well-written mystery. I realize everybody has different taste, but I have to wonder why s0 many people don’t like this. Are we spoiled by faster-paced TV shows? I do love mysteries and I read a lot. Maybe that has something to do with it–I”m used to delayed gratification and a slower build-up to the story. I don’t know. But I stand my belief that this is a good show and it’s not getting the attention it deserves.
We love this show. Can’t wait for Thursday night. The only show we actually look forward to each week. Please listen to the viewers. We can’t stand reality shows…refuse to watch any…pure trash…
Please finish this season don’t cut it off like u did with almost human. Are they going to be available on DVD?
I like this show I can’t wait for Thursday night so I can see what happens. But like all good shows you move them around mess with scheduling so people can’t find it and put something stupid in its place. I like crime and mystery shows. I’m not a sports person or reality show person. I don’t have a million channels to check and see what else is on. Saturday mornings don’t even have cartoons on tv stations suck these days sorry but most of them do. I watch Fox most of the time because of Bones sleepy hollow and… Read more »
I have Hulu and I’m pretty sure it’s on that. Also, it’s probably on Fox on demand so I wouldn’t worry about seeing the whole series.
Love this show. I wait all week to see latest happenings in this small town….good actors, good story. Very upset to read that it is even slightly being discounted by FOX. My god…can’t you leave one non-reality, cartoon show on?? Your ratings reporting is so full of errors…I am not in your beloved 18-35 group but I spend more than most earn…so count my voice twice!!!
Sorry to comment again but the World Series finale is on right now so Hell’s Kitchen wasn’t on this week so it could possibly be moving to Thursday night because right now HK is on opposite Survivor. I don’t care if they play episodes back to back to get through them quickly, but as someone else said, if they restart Gracepoint from the beginning that is probably not a good idea.
There is so much fuss about this show! It is really good and one way or the other I will watch all the episodes because I want to know what happens. I just bought Broadchurch on DVD (because of all the Broadchurch watchers). I watched an episode and a half, and I do think that there is a certain charm or warmth to B that G doesn’t seem to have. Coleman’s portrayal of Miller is much warmer than Gunn’s (her portrayal makes the character come off as a whiny *****!). David Tennant’s (<3 <3 ) character is much more abrasive… Read more »
BTW those <3 <3 were supposed to be 2 hearts because I am in love!
I thought this was finally being pulled from Thursday but it’s still listed for tomorrow? Does this mean that it is going to be pulled next week. Other sites are saying that Fox may choose to completely relaunch from the beginning on Saturday late evenings to see if they can chase a few more viewers. I think that it is a stupid move as those already following the show will most likely give up rather than rewatching the first five episodes again to get back to where we were before. While I don’t mind the show, don’t think I would… Read more »
Well I am enjoying the show. I have no problem with the David Tennant’s accent or anybody’s acting. I think the story is well-scripted so far and I don’t care that it’s an American remake of Broadchurch. I have read so many people griping about that. I don’t think they realize that most of us haven’t seen Broadchurch. I don’t understand the complaints about the accent either. He sounds fine. People can be so petty about things.
I love Gracepoint. I think the accent is fine. The Emmett Carver character is socially withdrawn and physically ill and that is why his emotional range is blunted. It is still early in the story. I suspect as we learn more about his history and he forms connections with his new home, his character will evolve.
Frankly one of the worst things on television. It is not that the acting is any worse than most of what is on network television, rather it is so full of itself as if it was a great piece of drama. Waste of talented Anna Gunn and Kevin Rankin. Lead detective has a lousy American accent and only has two expressions: scowl or frown. He could also do with a wash and shave.
Great show! Please DO NOT replace w/Hell’s Kitchen which is boring!
I’ll watch it ANY night.
