Pay-for-view channel Starz has announced that Gravity won’t be back for a second year. The show completed its run last week after just 10 episodes.
Gravity is a dramatic comedy that follows a group from an eccentric out-patient program for suicide survivors. Co-created by Eric Schaeffer and Jill Franklyn, the cast includes Schaeffer, Ivan Sergei, James Martinez, Krysten Ritter, Rachel Hunter, Robyn Cohen, Seth Numrich, and Ving Rhames.
Starz had high hopes for the series but it just never caught on. The season (now series) finale attracted an invisible 0.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 54,000 viewers. To no surprise, Starz has admitted that neither Gravity nor Party Down will be returning for another round.
In a statement, Stephan Shelanski, Starz’ executive VP of programming, said, “After careful consideration, we’ve decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of Party Down and Gravity. We’re grateful to everyone involved in the shows, and are proud to have had them on the channel. Starz remains committed to aggressively expanding our original programming lineup.”
What do you think? Did you watch Gravity? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I really enjoyed the show and was anxiously waiting for season 2.
I like anonymous above didn’t find out about it until the entire season was rebroadcast. I heard about it from my sister – never did I see it advertised anywhere. It is such a rich show with interesting characters. It certainly isn’t the writing or the acting that is holding the show back. I hope STARZ changes their mind. Maybe with a lot more promotion and a marathon of the first season before the new season this series could be a success. Come on we need to at least find ot what happended at the end of season one.
I loved this show! Such interesting characters that you could actually care about! I don’t think this show was marketed very well. I watched it because I read a short review in People magazine. None of my friends or coworkers had ever heard of it. It really is a great show!
I hadn’t heard of the show until after the first season was over and “on demand”. I tried out the first episode and was hooked. I’m shocked and disappointed that they canceled the show. Maybe they should work on advertising their shows better and give it some time for word of mouth to travel. I only found out it was canceled because I was prepared to count the days until season two came out. What a bummer!
The reason they canceled it is because they hire people who obviously have ADD and can’t stay with a show more than a few episodes. These people they hire to do their programming are channel surfers who miss bits and pieces of a show because they can’t stay on one thing long enough to become a follower let alone stand to keep a good show on so that it can build a follower base. Stupidity is becomming a main requirement for hiring executives that make these decisions. Not just on Starz, it’s happening all over. I believe they also get… Read more »
I am so sad they are not going to keep running with Gravity! It is such an amazing show and it keeps your attention and makes you look for more. They should at least do another season all of us fans know what happened after the season one finally!
Typical. Good shows like Gravity get cancelled and crap like Big Brother carries on and spins off more of the same… I guess I’ll be doing more reading this fall…
I loved this show! I’m pissed! If they weren’t gonna do a season 2…they should have tied up all the loose ends they left in the story in the season finale. Blah!
Too bad they canceled another good show!
I stumbled into this show and loved it. I am very sad that it was cancelled. same thing for Dead Like me. I think this show never caught on for promotions only.
Please bring back Gravity. I don’t watch much TV but I did watch Gravity and am heartbroken to find that it has been cancelled. That was a great show with great characters that should be renewed right away.
I am a writer who created/wrote a comedy show that some people said was brilliant & hilarious but no network seemed prepared to make or want take a chance on. When I watched Gravity I thought the characters were beautifully crafted & some of the lines were wonderful, beautiful & fitting. Then when I read this article & found that Party Down was also not being continued I was ******* heartbroken. Shame on the majority of lame, predictable horse **** that the masses seem to eat up with such an appetite of sheer dimwittedness! These moments make me lose further… Read more »
I think its sad that they cancelled a show with such original characters!!! Its rare to find a show with such well developed characters within such a short time. Keep it on another season! Let the summer viewers (the on demand ones) catch up. Don’t just pull the plug so quickly without allowing “word of mouth” to take effect. Sad.
I want this show BACK!! I love it!! I have become addicted to the story line in the two days that I watched it!! If they(FOX) can bring back Family Guy then I think they can bring this one back!! Who can I talk to to make this happen!!?????
I am so angry they cancelled this show too! All the shows I get into are getting cancelled! Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, My Name Is Earl and now this one too? These channels are cancelling the shows because they aren’t doing so great, that’s because people are to worried to get into a new show because we are stuck with the dumb cliffhangers of previously cancelled shows, and we know if we like one the chances of it hanging around are low! When they cancel these shows they should at the very least make another episode just so we… Read more »
