Back in May, we reported that executive producer Tina Fey would guest star in the second season of the Great News TV show on NBC. During the TCA summer press tour, and showrunner Tracey Wigfield revealed that Fey will recur in seven episodes as as Diana St. Tropez, the new head of MMN, the network home of The Breakdown — the fictional show within the show.
A family sitcom, Great News stars Briga Heelan, Andrea Martin, John Michael Higgins, Nicole Richie, Adam Campbell, Horatio Sanz, and Tracey Wigfield. The NBC series follows 30 year old Katie Wendelson (Heelan), a news producer on The Breakdown, a national cable news show. Wigfield created the comedy and executive produces along with Fey and Robert Carlock.
Here’s more from The Hollywood Reporter:
“She’s sort of the Sheryl Sandberg on steroids,” creator and showrunner Tracey Wigfield told reporters Thursday at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.
In addition to writing a series of books titled — yes, Boss Bitch — Fey’s character is described one of the few women who is seen as truly having it all. Diana’s working-mom mentality will put her at odds with Carol (Andrea Martin).
“She’s hopefully a really good foil to Andrea’s character,” Wigfield said. “This character kind of represents to her everything that she isn’t.”
However, Carol’s daughter Katie (Briga Heelan) looks up to Diana and “wants her to take her under her wing,” Wigfield added.

“Her presence in the show, I hope, really sets up all of our characters on really funny stories for the rest of the season,” Wigfield said.
