NBC has decided to cancel their low-rated Hannibal TV show. The current third season will be the series’ last.
Based on the Red Dragon novel by Thomas Harris, Hannibal revolves around the early relationship between FBI investigator Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), a forensic psychiatrist who becomes an infamous cannibalistic serial killer. Others in the cast of this thriller series include Laurence J. Fishburne III, Aaron Abrams, Caroline Dhavernas, Scott Thompson, Tao Okamoto, and Gillian Anderson.
The show’s ratings were poor in its first season and they’ve gotten even worse in seasons two and three. The three installments of the current season have averaged a 0.57 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.98 million viewers. Season-to-season, that’s down by 34% in the demo and down by 22% in viewership. Based on the numbers, NBC should have cancelled the series long ago.
In a statement, executive producer Bryan Fuller said, “NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons… Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”
NBC added, “We have been tremendously proud of Hannibal over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television — broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made Hannibal an incredible experience for audiences around the world.”
What do you think? Do you like the Hannibal TV show? Would you have watched a fourth season on NBC or on another channel?
Hannibal the series is deliciously brilliant and magnificently macabre. The quality of the writing, acting, directing and cinematography is a quality of greatness very few can achieve and seldom ever seen on television. Certainly not for the squeamish or faint of heart as some scenes are rather graphic and violent. Even in season three every episodes just keep getting better. Hannibal is exciting, intriguing, cerebral, and exciting and quality that is second to none. To cancel the series is a travesty of epic proportions and a befitting example of greatness few can comprehend. Hannibal should be the gold standard by… Read more »
YES!
It saddens me that NBC has cancelled the Hannibal television series. It was one of the few television programs that I enjoyed. I can only hope that some other network will pick it up.
I loved it, it was smart and mind blowing!!
I wanted to keep watching it…… am upset to find out it been cancell
So, we just had the season finally of ‘Hannible,’ and NBC in its infinate wisdom. has determined that there will be no season four.
That means, that I, in my limited brainpower, will cancel all NBC as part of my viewing practice.
best show on tv,why cancel? someone has to pick this series up
I was a fan, would have watched the next season. You should have advertised it more or do a spin off “The Bride of Hannibal”;… was that Mrs.. dining on her own leg in that last scene? Ewe
Ewwwwwwww that show makes me want to vomit
Would like to see the show still on . With Agent Stalling.
Would like to see the show still on . With Agent Stalling. I hope Netflix keeps the show going.
I have enjoyed Hannibal a lot. Like everything else an excellent show gets canceled. We can only hope that Netflix or a cable network picks it up so it can continue. Why does NBC always cancel the good stuff? Anyone remember Freaks and Geeks?
I definitely would’ve watched a 4th season, I thought and think this is a great show. I’m actually watching it on hulu now. Lol.
I would also like to add that I do like Aquarius very much and am a huge David Duchoveny but I have to agree that NBC does cancel allot of really good shows. Revolution and Constantine I thought were great and another show that got axed after 1 season that was great was The Event. The wife and I really got into that show and thought it definitely deserved another season.
Im with you no this one
I thought Hannibal was (and still is) brilliant! It’s clear that it is ahead of its time when it comes to the average TV viewer who would rather sink their lives into some outlandish reality show that is the equivalent of going to the zoo to see creatures that are only found in environments that we never visit. The cast of Hannibal is second to none and the writing and direction and special effects that add depth to an already deranged character, Hannibal, exquisitely played by Mads Mickelson and the remarkable complexity of Will Graham, crafted into a piece of… Read more »
I love your description of this series, it’s true that most people cannot watch it because of the true realism of it,
i only watched season 1. too ‘weird’ for my taste.
Generally you are my favorite network but, once again you create a smart innovative & well acted show then cancel it! This has happened many times in the past but recently I can name 2 victims: 1) Revolution & 2)Constantine. Neither is a normal choice for me in a show but I got hooked. Now I will never know how they end. Yes I saw the note of a revolution comic but I am 53 years old not 12 years old. I cared because of the actors as well as the story. I am not impressed with Aquarius too many characters… Read more »
Guess we are watching 2 different series because I find Aquarius very powerful. This past weeks episode was terrific. I also don’t find it off putting that that the actor playing Manson does not look like him. I think he plays him like the nut that Manson was. The two series you’ve mentioned I could not get into at all. As far as Duchovny I think he is doing a great job playing his character. How you see him sleeping walking is beyond me
yes I would have continued to watch it.
am sick of watching nbc programmes as soon as you start enjotying them and waiting for next season they cancel arseholes whole lot of them
I totally agree the GOOD shows always get cancelled
