Showtime has decided not to order a second season of their Happyish comedy series. The TV show has been cancelled after one season of 10 episodes.
On Happyish, a forty-something man and his family try to find a way to relax and be content in a rapidly changing world. The cast of this dark comedy includes Steve Coogan, Kathryn Hahn, Sawyer Shipman, Bradley Whitford, and Ellen Barkin.
The series started as a star-vehicle for actor Philip Seymour-Hoffman and it was picked up after he filmed a well-received pilot. The project was thrown in turmoil when he died and Coogan was eventually hired to replace him.
The show got off to a poor start in late April with meager viewership — garnering a 0.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 232,000 viewers in the same day ratings. The numbers went up and down throughout the short season but were always quite small.
A cancellation looked likely and now, it’s been confirmed that there won’t be a second season. The June 28th season finale will have to serve as the series finale as well.
What do you think? Did you like the Happyish TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season instead?
I love Happyish. I just rewatched season 1 because I love it so much. I would love to see a season 2. It was one of the few shows I enjoyed these days.
I agree with the comments below, sad to see it go when there is so much other crap still being made. I really connected with this show, and enjoyed the characters, wish I had cool friends like them.
Just watched the show on Netflix. It was superb! No holds barred, brutally honest, intelligent-a quirky and funny expose of the absurdity of American capitalism today.
I came across this show and I love it. I got hooked immediately. I think Showtime should have given it more time. There are a ton of new tv shows out there and people are just looking to find the that one. This show is awesome. I am really disappointed in Showtime. I love this show. Its reality to life. I hope they reconsider and I love the Cast!
Big mistake cancelling this show.. it was so awesome… it was like a funny reality in a bottle… it helped real people with real struggles cope with daily life with humor… YOU suck Showtime… how could you cancel this show… ?????
It must go on! I love this show! Please make a second season!
I love this show!!! Reconsider. It’s the only show spot on targeted at the 40ish age group. It’s funny and real. If it was unsuccessful with ratings, market it better. Lack of viewers has nothing to do with the quality of the show.
This is the jewel in Shotimes’ crown! I beg for a second season- Phillip would be proud… And we would be Happyish!!
This show is worth the premium! Please shotime- u r all i watch and Happyish is the jewel in your crown! 2nd season please!
I’m very disappointed in this decision. It seems like the smart shows always get canceled. I’m surprised that Showtime would do this though. They are not beholden to the advertisers.
This was a very funny dark comedy. Good quality television. Too bad.
Such a shame! This is one of the best sitcoms’ I’ve seen in years. I sadly just found this morning. I had been checking for new episodes weekly since the last episode. It’s really sad that the end has come prematurely before it could find it’s target audience. I don’t think it was advertised enough to get the chance to find it’s audience. I was really looking forward to finding out how the couple dealt with being pregnant and finding a job after prematurely quiting his job by the leading character. The network really dropped the ball on this one!… Read more »
This is one comedy I could watch a second time and still enjoy. I don’t think it was given the chance to get traction and want very well promoted. I only found it by accident, and I’m totally bummed to see it go.
They certainly better bring back Qu eer As Folk. or push Shameless back earlier, improve their current movie selection, or reduce their subscription rates. Happyish was different, edgy & showed a group of people not really represented elsewhere. Sad to see it go, but when such great shows as Forever (ABC) are cancelled, & you see the mindless stuff that remains, no surprise. R.I.P. Happyish – maybe see them again on USA or TNT?
My wife and I, as well as our 30 year old son and his wife are all royally bummed out! This show was hilarious and extraordinary. Is there any hope for intelligent comedy?
To bad I liked the show!
