The ratings for Hell on Wheels have dropped lower and lower so AMC decided to end the series with season five. Will the fifth season’s ratings be the show’s best numbers yet or, will they drop lower. Will the execs regret not cancelling the show instead of giving it a final season? Stay tuned.
A gritty period drama that takes place in the 1860s, Hell on Wheels revolves around the institutionalized greed and corruption behind the building of America’s Transcontinental Railroad as loyalties are abandoned and the race between the Central Pacific and Union Pacific lines intensifies. The cast includes Anson Mount, Colm Meaney, Christopher Heyerdahl, Robin McLeavy, Jennifer Ferrin, Phil Burke, Tim Guinee, Dohn Norwood, Reg Rogers, Byron Mann, A. Zhou, Tzi Ma, and MacKenzie Porter.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

What do you think? Do you like the Hell on Wheels TV series? Do you think it should be ending? Would you watch a sixth season?
The show had to end sometime as did building the railroad in the 18 hundreds. The writers did an excellent job of keeping true to the Hell on Wheels story. Anson Mount was the best character on that show and an excellent actor in all perspectives! I admit I will miss the show, but I do plan to buy the series when it all comes out on DVD. thank you!
Hell on wheels would have done better had it not been moved to Saturday night. Show is so underrated. One of my favorites ever.
Hell on whells was the best thing going and then you cancell it without giving it a finnish, that just Sucks!
Totally agree!!! Was a great show. What “brain-child” decided to move it to Saturday night? Do the ratings include DVR viwers?
Bring Hell on Wheels back please!!! Great Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh please dont cancel the hell on wheels!!!! We have hulu, netfixs & mgo. Dont think we count in ratings but we perorder the series! We r in love with the show and wait for the next one to come on!
I was addicted to watching Hell On Wheels Seasons 1 thru 4. It was the best series I had seen in a while. That is why it was shocking that Season 5 was SO BAD! The acting was still good but the script was so BORING!I I did not finish watching all 7 shows and would not watch a Season 6. Sorry. However, I thought the main character remained a great actor throughout.
Why did u end season 5 episode 7 that left everything hanging !!! That was a big disappointment!! At least can we see swede get his demise!!! Can u please show rest of episodes and not let those who love this show hang? Will be able to see all episodes when it comes on DVD ? Thank you
I have enjoyed this show so very much.. It brings History into our living rooms and with that you start talking. It is so informative I will really feel bad if it is not renewed. We see so much of silly shows, canned laughter , that to watch a show that brings U.S History and tells it like is was, We can all appreciate where we (USA) came from. Great show
Everyone we know want it back,
Have very much enjoyed HOW and am very sadden that this isn’t being aired till the end. First show I have gotten into on AMC, and if this is the way you do your programs I surely can’t see myself wanting to get interested in any other shows on your network.
I have been so enthralled w/Hell on Wheels and cannot believe the “powers that be” have cancelled the series after Season 5. The show & its’ viewers have been left dangling.
Let’s complete the show, finishing what you started, & demonstrate to your viewers that they are really important!
Please finish the show. Been watching for years. I love it.
My wife Stacey and I started watching Hell on Wheels in the the 3rd season….now we record every show and have started watching the first season on Netflix…..We very disappointed they are ending the show!

This show used to be so good but all of the good characters have been killed off (and some for no reason whatsoever – or at least their deaths didn’t add anything good to teh story like Ruth for example.) This season is especially hard to watch with how incredibly boring it is compared to the first three seasons. It kind of just fell a part and I am not the only one who sees this: this is why the ratings have slipped so badly. You kill everyone off the show starts to suck – you lose all of that… Read more »
I disagree. What makes a great show for me is a bit of authenticity and the fact that a show keeps in mind the subject matter and time and place it is portraying. The fact that at any time any main character can die and be replaced adds a sense of reality to a show like this, and that is something I myself like. This show takes place at a time and in a place where life was very hard and the authenticity of people you grow to like dying off is very much in keeping with what happned quite… Read more »
I just read that HOW will be ending after another half-season in the summer of 2016. This saddens me beyond words…..As a child of the coal fields where trains were the only contact with the ‘normal world’, I am more than a little interested in them – whether it’s the building of them or the use of them. As a child I was also enamored of all things western at the movies, on tv, wherever. I gladly gave up my Saturday and Sunday afternoons to go to the matinees at the local movie house. HOW has been such a wonderful… Read more »
