After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

This is why NBC is the worst network on TV. They do not know what they have when they have it. Heroes cast members should just go over to ABC, FOX or CBS where ALL the good programing is anyways. Just like Letterman did, so can you. Good luck people.
ok, so the last season was whack, but what about ending the series?? I need to know about these ppl!
THIS SUCKS!!!!!
I am so sad that Heroes will not be aired this Fall. I was looking forward to watching it.
this network is the WORST . if they dont end heroes im never going to watch another NBC show again. i watched all 4 seasons and got all the dvds. we the fans pay the bills by watching there ads . why didnt they ask us what we wanted. whats the matter not enough money its messed up. i emailed them and they wont even read it.
Once again I find there is nothing on NBC i care to watch.
So disappointed…it was one of the most original series on tv…I couldn’t wait until this fall…please give fans the satifaction of an epic ending…many of us have invested years in the show, network, characters….
Just watched all 4 seasons. I am a johnny-come-lately to most shows and this one REALLY needs a conclusion.
Sad. It was a show I looked forward to seeing… 🙁
pls pls pls just give us (the fans) a great ending for heroes season 4. it wasnt that good.
NBC, you SUCK! We have been waiting and waiting and waiting for the Fall season. If there is a wrap-up episode, of course we will watch it. But if NBC wants to give up the glory then hopefully another network will pick up the show.
NBC, you have let down a lot of fans. You can afford the special effects, but you can’t afford the shame of letting this show go.
Very Sorry to hear this . I am over 49 TYVM and still loved the show along with Chuck. Maybe they should have Sexed it up. Seems like all the nasty stuff stays on. Which is one of the reasons I liked this show, no nasty !!
I am extremely disappointed about heroes being canceled. I believe with the millions in audience that it did attract should have been enough to keep it on TV. If one of their reasons was because of the special effects than why could NBC not take some of them out so we as fans do not have to go without the show. I do not believe that this is fair to do to those people including myself who have looked forward to each and every time that the season began. It all comes down to NBC making money. They do not… Read more »
