Yesterday, Hallmark Channel announced that host Cristina Ferrare would be replaced as co-host by regular contributor Debbie Matenopoulos. The cable channel didn’t specify when the change would take place.
Today, co-host Mark Steines made a quick announcement that Ferrare had left the show and that Matenopoulos would be replacing her, effective immediately. Ferrare hadn’t been on the show for two weeks and didn’t return for a send-off.
Fans of the show have been concerned if Ferrare was sick and have been wondering if the decision to leave was her decision. On her Facebook page, Ferrare confirmed that she is not sick and essentially says that she was fired. She wrote:
Okay here goes, I feel it’s important to finally step up to the plate and let you know what is happening.
First may I say that my family and I have been so thankful and appreciative for all the love, support, prayers, and good wishes you have been sending me on a daily basis for the past three weeks. It pained me so that I was unable to let you know what was going on out of respect for everyone on Home and Family and the Network. I was asked to wait and I have but now I feel I should out of respect for YOU let you know.
It’s really very simple, Home and Family will have a season 5 which I am so happy for and the Network decided that they want a new co-host and that will be Debbie. She will do a great job!
You can still reach me here on facebook and we shall continue honoring love of family and friends. I truly LOVE you all. You have been my rainbow!

I feel Hallmark will live to regret that decision. Since Christine has left I quit watching the show. For one Debbie and the other the way they removed Christine was uncalled for..

I’m going to miss Cristina on the show but I don’t feel the show should be canceled. I feel that the “older more mature viewer” is not honored and valued in what is represented or offered on TV…I hope Hallmark keeps offering wholeseome entertainment. If not, I will have my say by changing the channel. I wish Cristina well.
Man I’m glad Christina is gone. She seemed like she hated Mark and was trying to hide it. They would nicely argue on air frequently. She was a horrrible host and I always wondered why she doing this job. The new host Debbie is awesome and she has such a wonderful personality. Great change! Now I watch the show much more.

I am a 50 yo GRANDMOTHER, until i began to watch home and family i never watched talk shows. Christina was the reason i made sure i tuned in everyday. The network does not realize that the”older gals” are the ones watching also. It s not just a young audience tuning in, its ppl of all ages. The show has lost its “sparkle” and alot of ciewers. You s have made a big mistake.

What a mistake! Show is no longer something I will watch. When will women be judged by talent and experience an not “age”! So sad
A big part of my watching Home & Family was due to Christina. Her smile and charisma just made me smile and feel good. The show lacks that luster she brought to the show. I have no interest in watching anymore which saddens me. I feel a good friend has been taken away. God Bless You Christina. Hallmark made a huge huge mistake. It was a big mistake letting Cristina Ferrare go It will probably cost Hallmark some viewers. The Home and Family will probably be cancelled due to low ratings now that Cristina is no longer hosting. I used to enjoy the show. Debbie as host isn’t really s suited to do the job on a full time basi, in my opinion.

Tho I understand your anger for the poor dicision that was made, I kind of think it a bit harsh to put so much blame on Debbie. She’s not the one who fired Christina. I’m sure she was in more support of her staying on, but she also has her career to think about. But I completely agree she is not at all suitable for this position right now.
I thought Hallmark had the viewers best intetests in mind..I was so wrong. Debbie “ACTED” like Christinas friend. Shame on you Debbie. From day one she was a camera hog. I am not interested in watching the Home Show anymore. I really like the Hallmark channel l even pay extra to get it. However if they treat people like they did Christine Ferrare needless to say l am very disappointed in them. What will they do next.? Not a wise or good choice…

I’m so tired of all the networks putting under 40 hosts and cohosts on shows. Whatever happened to representation of a large majority of Americans watching TV, the 45 to 65 crowd, we are not represented anymore. I’ve learned to turn off shows that don’t try and recognize me as a potential viewer with topics that interest me and hosts that can relate to me. I want hosts that are respectable, not trashy, someone that I would welcome into my home. I will not be watching the show, it seems like out with old and in with the new. It’s crazy how this world places so much priority over the new. Just remember we all are going to that direction.
This situation seems to fly in the face of everything Hallmark stands for. There should have been more transparency with the process and Christina appears to have been treated poorly. Appearance is as good as reality in the mind of the viewers. It’s changed my happy feelings about my favorite channel.
