After loads of promotion, TV Land has now debuted their original sitcom, Hot in Cleveland. Starring a quartet of sitcom veterans, is the TV show worth watching?
Hot in Cleveland follows three women from Los Angeles who’ve supposedly passed their prime. They’re on their way to Paris to check another item off their “bucket list” when their plane has to land in Cleveland. They quickly learn to love the Midwestern city and take up residence, living in a house that’s got a sassy caretaker. The series stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and Betty White. Future guests include Wayne Knight, Shirley Knight, Huey Lewis, Hal Linden, Susan Lucci, Juliet Mills, Carl Reiner, and Amy Yasbeck.
Executive produced by Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), Todd Milliner, and Suzanne Martin, Hot in Cleveland debuted on June 16th. The first episode attracted 4.75 million viewers with a 1.9 rating in the 25-54 demographic.
While those numbers aren’t great for a regular network, they make Hot in Cleveland the most-watched and highest-rated broadcast in TV Land’s history.
The sitcom got mixed reviews so the big question is, “How many viewers will keep tuning in week after week?” The ratings for new shows typically drop off 10-20% in the second week but even if that many viewers don’t return, TV Land will still likely be very happy with the show’s ratings. There are nine episodes left in season one. Even if the ratings take a big nosedive, they’ll all surely air.
What do you think? Does Hot in Cleveland live up to your expectations? Will you keep watching or should the series be cancelled already?

Hilarious! What a wonderful way to showcase four amazing women! Thank you!!!!!
I think you need to keep it. All sitcoms become more interesting once you get to know the characters. I will keep watching it and I think it will live up to my expectations.
I will definitely keep watching. My only question is why this delightfully entertaining show is not on one of the major networks. With alumni Leeves and Malick this show would have been a great fit for NBC. Lord knows they could use more sitcoms. Well, their loss is TVLand’s gain.
A little loosey goosey at first, like stand-up comedians playing off each other. But, will continue to watch as it definitely has possibilities! Good cast, can’t wait to see what Huey will be doing:) Darn hard to find on that obscure channel, so ” keep on keeping on”
KEEP IT! This is the best sit com in so long…. REALLY tired of not so reality TV. C’mon Neilson and cable and Satalite providers you need to need to monitor on DVR TV…… all of the good shows would still be on.
Oh, YES, YES, YES ! PLEASE keep ‘Hot in Cleveland’ on TVLand. Kudos to our four delightful ladies for taking us on a wonderful meander down memory lane, to a time of “kinder, gentler” sitcoms, sans the mean spirited rhetoric and foul language that abounds on the reality shows of today. This viewer is very happy that Sean Hayes and his talented team had the foresight to use ‘hindsight’ in creating this NEW memory for us. And, Betty, you’re awesome! Keep on keeping on, girl!

I will definitely keep turning in. I just hope they can keep up the witty repartee. So far it is very funny. Betty White is her usual very funny self and the other three are quick and funny, also. I think we cancel shows too quickly without giving them a chance. I hope they finish all their episodes and the public wants more. I think it needs more advertising because I know several people who knew it was on but didn’t realize it was on TVLand and changing channels did not find it.
Keep Hot in Cleveland. The production values may not be state of the art, but the writing is clever, and the performances delicious. I left the mistake on the lake years ago and never wanted to even hear of it again. Watching the pilot made me nostalgic for Cleveland, and the script made me literally laugh out loud–several times.
I’ll keep watching. And I can’t understand how anyone can decide whether to cancel any show after one episode.
Keep Hot in Cleveland. Love it and a great cast!
The opening scene on the plane was so weak, I almost quit watching. Amazingly after that, the writing and acting improved. I’ll take another look next week.
I will keep on watch it through the summer. It might be cancel after the summer season is over. I don’t think Betty White doesn’t want to do another TV series like she did on The Golden Girls for 7 years. Betty prefer to do the guest of tv comedy or another comedy movie if it does come something for her. I don’t think she will be able to find another movie part in the future because she is almost close to 90 years old. And I don’t want to see Betty do another movie with Sandra Bullock. Sandra hated… Read more »
I REALLY LIKED THE SHOW. INTERESTED TO SEE HOW IT WILL DEVELOP
SOME VERY FUNNY LINES
Keep HOT IN CLEVELAND on. Great show so far. Good to Betty White still going at 88.
This show is hilarious!!!
I will absolutely keep watching. The characterizations were delicious; the actors are first rate and – the situation REALLY hit home. For god’s sake, most of us aren’t 90 lb fashionistas tramping thru the streets of NYC having scads of men want to ravish us (ala Sex and the City). I think the writing was spot-on – you don’t think a woman who’s in her “middle ages” could chuck it all and start over in a heartbeat because she finds a glimmer of happiness in a new city on a whim? THINK AGAIN!!! It’s what half of us are doing… Read more »
