In one of last Friday’s episodes of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, titled “God Bless the Paynes,” Calvin (Lance Gross) was shot by the man who’d earlier harassed Miranda (Keshia Knight Pulliam). He’s rushed to the hospital but his fate is unknown.
We’ve received a few emails from readers who believe that next week’s episodes will be the end of the series and the death of Calvin. While House of Payne has been “cancelled,” there are a lot more episodes still to come.
In April 2011, TBS announced that they were ending the venerable sitcom, in part to make way for Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse. At that time, we understood the final episode total for House of Payne to be 220 installments.
In late September, Perry posted on his Facebook page that TBS had ordered 42 more episodes. In December, the cast and crew had a wrap party that celebrated the completion of 254 episodes. It’s unclear if they’ll be going back into production now that the holidays are over but, based on the numbers we have, it seems like they still have at least eight more installments to make.
In the meantime, we do know that this Friday’s episodes of House of Payne aren’t the last. Two new episodes will air each Friday night for the next six weeks. Episodes 223 and 224 will air on February 17th and that will leave about 30 episodes left in the series.
In the meantime, you should know that Calvin does not die from his gunshot wounds. He lives and, at least in the next couple episodes, has to worry about paying his hospital bills because he doesn’t have insurance.
What do you think? Are you a fan of House of Payne? Are you glad to know there are more episodes on the way?

I ejoy watching a great television show. And I loved and enjoyed watching the great and wonderful ” The House of Payne “. The story lines were amazingly funny ( when needed ) and serious too. The subject matter that were tackled on this series were ” dead on “. Each week we found ourselves both educated and entertained . As an avid television watcher, I looked forward to watching the HOP . Also, I watch the syndicated shows everyday ( 7:oopm and 7:30 pm. Monday through Friday). I speak for the many viewers of HOP in saying that there… Read more »
Hate to see Hop leave the air. When you needed a laugh they were alway there. I do not care about the new series. Nothing can take the place of HOP. Love the character on HOP they were funny and serious when need be. Don’t care for the character on the new show. To bad you made a mistake taken it off the air.
I hate hate hate to see HOP end!! I look forward to it every Friday night!! Very sad!!
Love it
Let’s hope some other network will pick it up. At least there will be reruns.
Love the HOP and all the characters. Really hate to see this show come to an end. FBOFW is nice and I will be watching that also. However, HOP has something none of the others have. It is truly a great show.
I too love HOP and am sad to hear its ending. My grandson loves it too. When he comes over I ask him if he’d like to see a movie and he always say ” I wanna watch Curtis!”. Gonna miss it!
Love HOP & MTB. Hate that both shows were cancelled. Now we are left with reality tv and generic sitcoms. As a young mother, I looked forward to sitting down on Friday nights with my kids and a bowl of popcorn to watch these shows. Now if I want to watch African American sitcoms I will have to look at reruns of old shows. Hopefully another station will pick the shows up.
i love this show why cancel when there are so many fans out here
I really have enjoyed this show. House of pain is hands down the best black family oriented sitcom on tv since the Cosby Show. It was refreshing to have a show you could sit and watch with your family about family because there is so little on tv u can do that with. This show definitely wil be missed! To all the actors of the show you all were awesome and will sincerely be missed. Looking foward to seeing you all in future endeavors.
House of Payne was a bright spot in my week. I will miss the show and cast!
IT’S A SHAME FOR THE CANCELLATIONS. I REALLY ENJOYED THE SHOWS. THEY WERE GOOD. THEY ARE FEW BLACK SHOWS ON TV NOW, ESPECIALLY DURING PRIMETIME HRS. ALSO, THERE ARE LIMITED STATIONS THAT SHOW BLACK SHOWS. HOWEVER, I’M GATEFUL FOR TBS FOR GIVING TYLER PERRY THE OPPURTUNITY FOR DISPLAYING HIS SHOWS ON THEIR NETWORK.
I love House of Payne. It’s a great show w/ very good actors and story lines. I hope it isn’t the last season. There will be nothing to look forward to watching on Friday nights. Maybe Tyler can do a spin-off written around Janine and CJ, Miranda and Calvin. I think that will target a younger market he wants to tap.
They are canceling two of the est shows on TV., but keeping all the junk on. House of Payne and Meet the Browns, are great shows. We have already lost two great daytime soaps, and might loose General Hospital. Don`t let us loose our best night time shows.
Plain and simple….Tyler Perry needs his own tv network so that way none of his shows like: House of Payne, Meet the Browns & For Better or For Worse will not get cancelled
Totally Agree!!! Gina
I love house of Payne and have purchased volumes 1-9.. Very sad to see the show leave the air…I looked forward to Fridays and always had my DVR set to record…I’m not understanding the cancellation…there’s so much other crap shows on the air that need to be canceled….thank-you Tyler Perry for all the laughs and tears and I will always be a huge supporter of you…looking forward to you future projects
Great idea. Maybe he should calaborate with Oprah. She could carry the shows on her station.
