There weren’t big ratings for ABC Family’s Huge series so the cable channel has cancelled it after just 10 episodes.
Huge follows a group of seven teenagers who are sent to weight-loss camp with diverse results. The cast includes Nikki Blonsky, Hayley Hasselhoff, Raven Goodwin, Ari Stidham, Ashley Holliday, Harvey Guillen, Stefan Van Ray, Jacob Wysocki, Molly Tarlov, Gina Torres, Zander Eckhouse, Zoe Jarman, and Paul Dooley.
The show debuted to a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic last June with 2.53 million viewers. ABC Family bragged that it was their biggest series launch to date among women 18-49 and second largest in adults 18-49 and women 18-34.

Unfortunately, the numbers started to fall in week two and slowly kept dropping off. By week eight, Huge hit a series low with a 0.5 rating in the demo and 1.34 million viewers. That represents an audience loss of about 45% since the debut. The last episode of the season attracted just a 0.6 rating and 1.45 million total viewers.
Now, according to Deadline, ABC Family has decided to cancel Huge. Unfortunately for the show’s loyal viewers, there won’t be a second season or a true series finale. The last episode aired on August 30th.
The decision to cancel Huge doesn’t really come as a surprise, especially if you look at the great success that ABC Family has been having with other new shows like Pretty Little Liars and Melissa & Joey.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Huge has been cancelled? Why do you think more people didn’t tune in?

Melissa and Joey SUCKS! Huge was one of the best things to happen to ABC Family. ABC Family ******* sucks now.
tv hates fat people
extremely saddened. this show really meant something to me. i loved the characters and the storyline. it was a very real show that revolved around real issues. weight is a major issue during this time and to have seen overweight stars with talent was really inspiring. abc should’ve kept it running and gave it more advertisement like it did to that pretty little liars show. another stupid show with skinny girls, big ol’ woop
i agree….tired of seeing shows with a bunch of skinny girls!
Wow…that really sucks. Seems like I always get into the tv shows that get cancelled…My So Called Life…Undeclared…yeah. Great show…highly disappointed.
Just three words iv got for you, that’s messed up.
This was the one show my teen girls and their friends can relate too!! They were REAL teens struggling with REAL issues that kids face now a days. We need a show like Huge to remind the kids that we are all peole no matter what. Please bring it back!! If not my kids are only going to get to see shows where the teens spend more money in one day at the mall buying close that barely cover then I make in a year.
I really loved huge. It gave me the courage to lose weight, and also feel good about myself. Im tired of seeing skinny people on tv. You never see overweight people on tv. This makes me upset that you canceled one of the best shows you ever came up with.
This is an outrage, this show was the one thing in my life my brother and I looked forward to. It is very disappointing to see all of our good memories and laughs come to an end. Every time this show aired it made me and my bro examine our lives and find our true selves as we connected to the characters. I even found myself wanting to attend a fat camp even though their websites say I’m not eligable since I’m not overweight. But I don’t care, I really want to go. Huge was MY show. It helped me… Read more »
Dear ABC Family,
Me and my friend Rene grew deeply attached to this show. It changed our lives. We looked forward to watching it every week. We don’t know what we’d do without it. We appreciate fat people and don’t want this plus size show to end. Come on, bring it back. Even though we are skinnier than them it’s still nice to watch them try and lose the weight. Fat people need a chance to be heard, watched, and judged. Atleast they’re trying to help themselves. Please! Please! Please! Bring back our baby!
I liked this show. At first I was a bit standoffish with it, feeling offended that it was about a bunch of fat teenagers; but then I got into it and was excited to get home and watch the show each week. It showed regular problems amongst teens, especially those who are overweight. I do not think this show should have been taken off the air. I expected it to return this January along with the new season of Pretty Little Liars, which I also love. It’s a shame.
i loved that show! it showed hard work and how it is to cope with being larger because i see myself that way.
I have to say I am really surprised not only about liking the show but furthermore about my husband liking the show – yes I said it, my husband a 24 year old army veteran loves the show! And your canceling it, what you couldn’t make one more season, try a different air time, do more promotions, anything else? Look at House and all their problems, yet they still have loyal fans, we want Huge to air! We want it back!! Get to work! Do your job and properly advertise!
I loved this series. I was so dissapointed to see it get cancelled and feel a little cheated. I don’t think ABC family realizes that the Nielson rating system doesn’t take into account the viewers that watch via Hulu or other web programs. Since I don’t get “regular” cable, I don’t have an ABC family channel, which leaves me with the internet. ABC should reverse their decision for at least a season finally episode.
I believe this show should stay on tv at least for one more season. There are people who need it to realize they are not alone when they are dealing with overweight issues and this show inspires some to get up and workout. I understand that the ratings fell, but there are people who get busy during the season it was on. Perhaps change it from spring/summer to winter, try it then. More people are indoors then and don’t want to go out and enjoy the day. Seriously bring the show back.
Im honestly dissapointed i realy liked the show it had alot of truth in it theres alot of people struggling to lose wright and i realy liked the story its dissapointing we wont find out what happens to the characters it would have been nice it just ended so abruptly in my oppinion the show should go on at least one more season to properly end the show
