Humans is in danger of being cancelled and the AMC series might not see a second season. Why? There is a shake-up in the works in UK television. A deal that would take Channel 4 private might put several shows in danger of cancellation.
Radio Times reported on the shake-up with C4 earlier this week, and one of the series in danger is Humans.
David Abraham, C4’s chief executive, believes that current discussions regarding selling the channel would mean that a corporate owner would eventually send profits back to shareholders instead of using it to pay for new and experimental programming. He also said:
“You would definitely not have [comedies] Catastrophe and Chewing Gum and Toast and Fresh Meat. All these things our viewers love. You would not be swinging the bat as often in those genres. This year we have had our highest spend on drama with shows like Humans and Indian Summers too and it has yielded some fantastic results. Our capacity for experimentation [would] reduce very dramatically.”
This is the second time this month that a shake-up on British television put a series in danger of being cancelled? The X Factor UK is facing potential cancellation because of a deal with The Voice UK.
Would you be upset if Humans was cancelled due to a UK television shake up? Tell us what you think.
I would be terribly disappointed if Humans got cancelled. This is one show where I started it because of one actor but stayed because of the awesome story. I’ve never seen anything quite like it and I think it deserves so much more time.
Love love love Humans
CHANNEL 4 DONT YOU DARE CANCEL HUMANS
This is a very good drama: thought provoking, well written and beautifully acted. I loved it and did not miss an episode and re-watched it on catch up TV despite the annoying advert blocks. I cannot understand the current British Government’s desire to privatise public broadcasting. At present as I understand it from the Radio Times article, Channel 4 is a commissioner and facilitator. Apparently it cannot produce its own shows: it must commission them. This has fantastic benefits for the creative industries: creates jobs and exports. Why a Tory ideological drive to privatise broadcasting (including destroying the BBC –… Read more »
EXCUSE ME?? Humans is one of the best shows I have seen lately, and it will be a crime if it’s cancelled now!
I would be VERY upset if Humans got canceled. That is my new favorite show, one of the few that’s captured my imagination enough for me to be legitimately impatient for the next series, and that doesn’t happen often. It’s such an amazingly deep and complex show with some of the realest characters and character interactions I’ve ever seen. <=(
Of course they’ll cancel it… It’s a great show, new, different and we all like it… what’s the problem?
Oh why Humans is in danger? We are soooooooo love this show, and also I am a Chinese and there a so many of us do not want to see it be canceled! This show has many Chinese fans!!!!
My entire family watches Humans. Plus many of our friends here in the U.S. We are eagerly waiting Season 2. We like the concept, the story line, and the actors. It would be a loss if we don’t get more seasons.
If Channel 4 is making a second season of Humans as the final season next year, Maybe AMC could make an American version of Humans after season two ends. They could call it Real Humans (the same name from the original Swedish version) or Robotic Humans or Cybernetic Humans or Humanoids.
Humans I! Love the concept and I am waiting for next season but this is total crap! BBC should get it’s head out of it’s ass and move forward.
If, as Mr Abraham said, “This year…with shows like HUMANS…and it has yielded some fantastic results”, then why cancel it? That seems counterproductive don’t you think? I was totally engaged with each episode of HUMANS and looked forward to seeing it weekly as I wanted to learn what happened to all of them. To lose this show would be a huge disservice to the viewing public.
I loved Humans, and I HOPE it comes back!!!!!!!!!
I would be saddened. Last year I thought It was the best new show
This article isn’t worded very well. I’ve read it twice and am still not sure exactly why Humams is in danger… Is someone new buying C4 and looking to change everything?
I didn’t understand it either, so I had to read the original source article: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-11-16/channel-4-privatisation-would-be-a-catastrophe-for-uk-television-says-boss.
