USA Network’s In Plain Sight TV show recently had its episode order cut from 16 to 13 installments. Is this a sign that the series is headed for the TV graveyard after three seasons?
Not necessarily. It turns out that In Plain Sight will wrap season three early for another reason. The Futon Critic was told by Universal Cable Productions, “John McNamara, executive producer and showrunner of USA Network’s In Plain Sight, took a leave of absence for medical reasons… John Romano assumed executive producer responsibilities for the remaining episodes. Given the unexpected change, we decided to end the season at a natural spot — with the surprising cliffhanger of episode 13.”
Season three will finish airing on Wednesday, June 30th. In Plain Sight hasn’t been renewed for a fourth season yet and isn’t necessarily looking like a lock either.
Last season reportedly averaged 4.08 million viewers but recent episodes have been attracting less than three million viewers. That’s certainly not a good indicator for renewal.
What do you think? Should In Plain Sight be renewed for season four or cancelled?

They CAN’T cancel In Plain Sight!!! I LOVE it sooo much. I will do anything for it to go on for more season, ANYTHING. I’m even considering writing a letter to the producers and writers and getting my friends and my friends families to watch the show. I absolutely love this show and I’ll do anything to get the ratings up so the show can keep going. If anyone has any other ideas to help me please comment.
Maybe this matters, maybe it doesn’t, but I think networks- especially NBC- needs to keep in mind when they offer their shows on things like Time Warner Cable’s PrimeTime on Demand (POD), some of the urgency to watch it on the regular broadcast channel- USA- at the regular broadcast time isn’t as urgent.
I think it’s a great show- great characters, great pacing, etc.- just that it’s aired so often on top of POD that they dilute the numbers. I’m almost CERTAIN that helped kill off Heroes. They were on POD as well as the G4 cable channel.
DON’T cancel IPS!! It is absolutely one of the very best programs on television!!!! This show is SMART and the characters are wonderful. It’s a terrific show which deserves to stay on.
Why don’t we just have David Maples return to his show? The show was revamped into a procedural and the ratings plummeted. It’s not that season three isn’t good, it just is not what it was created to be. Bring In Plain Sight and its creator back as showrunner.
Great show if they would quit spending so much time on the otherwise boring family “troubles”. Haven’t they milked AA enough?
Will Mary ever realize her dad is in WITSEC? Maybe by episode 13 this season??
I love this show…PLEASE come back!!!!
It was popular because it was on Sunday Nights and theres usually nothing on that night so thats why people could watch. Also people were actually home so they could. Wednesday night at 10pm was pretty brutal competing with other networks so I am not surprised that people werent tuning in. Also the fact that that FBI guy and the so called guy who’s supposed to be marry’s brother ruining the show. IMO.
I love this show and Mary and Marshall need to get together eventually. I would not only be sad but mad if they cancelled it!!
one of the best shows on TV. If NBC had any brains, it would be on their network
Keep In Plain Sight in sight! With some of the wittiest, most intelligent dialogue in television, it is a joy to watch. Marshall and Mary are a great team.
absolutely it should be renewed. i’m all for renewing any decent scripted series rather than leaving a spot for another ridiculous “reality” show.
It would be a scandal and a catastrophe for In Plain Sight to die after episode 13 … it is a stylishly written and flawlessly acted and directed vehicle ….. helas USA seems to be in the business of trotting out shows just long enough for an audience to get hooked on their “characters,” then DROPPING them. Makes one not even want to debut with them in the first place.
It would be terrible to cancel this show. The move from Sunday to Wednesday has got to be the reason for the drop off in ratings. But it would just add to a growing list of shows that I loved that have been cancelled in recent years.
I’ve only watched through season two on DVD, but the show has been superb. Great performances by the cast, clever dialog, good stories. I hope it gets renewed.
I think it should be renewed it is an excellent show….The actors are great, the writing is really good….please renew it.
