Tonight, USA Network aired the series finale of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Many who work on the TV show hope that’s not necessarily true.
Last Summer, it was rumored that the cop drama might be cancelled following a season of lackluster ratings. USA instead opted to bring Criminal Intent back for a 10th and final season of eight episodes. To cap the show’s run, it was also announced that Kathryn Erbe and Vincent D’Onofrio, who left abruptly at the start of season nine, would return.
Though USA has been calling season 10 the end of Criminal Intent, we learned in May that executive producer Dick Wolf wasn’t throwing in the towel just yet. He told reporters that he hoped, “enough fans will come out so the powers that be reconsider their decision.” Later, executive producer Chris Brancato noted that, “Yeah, I think if viewers are enthused about Vincent and Katie coming back I don’t see why it has to be the final season.” The ratings have shown improvement.
Erbe is also hopeful that tonight won’t be the end and would be to season 11. She recently told TV Guide, “I know that I would be there in a heartbeat. I’m fairly positive that Vincent [D’Onofrio] feels the same way. Everyone was really hoping that, in the 11th hour, we’d get some word… Whether the fans are able to muscle us back or not, who knows. They have amazing power.”
Regardless of what happens, Erbe is grateful for the chance to return to the series. She said, “I just know that these eight episodes were like a gift. To be able to come back and have closure with the crew and the cast and everyone… If that happens again, fantastic. It would just be like icing on the cake.”
If the series doesn’t come back, the actress feels that viewers will like this farewell to Goren and Eames better than their departure in 2010. Erbe notes, “I know we set out to make it satisfying… The one thing I know you’re going to see is that Goren and Eames are on much better, more solid ground. Healthier, happier and in good shape.”
If she never gets to play the role again, Erbe imagines that her character would continue solving cases with Goren and just continue to live her life.
What do you think? Would you like to see Law & Order: Criminal Intent continue?

I didn’t discover that U.S.A. was airing new episodes until May. I immediately set my D.V.R. to record them and I have NOT been disappointed. U.S.A.: PLEASE GIVE US ANOTHER SEASON!
This is my favorite tv show. Sure would love to see it stick around for a few more seasons.
This is one of my favorite shows. There are not too many TV shows that I like. I love these two together. If a show ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I watch the re-runs over and over so let it come back until they get too old and retire. Thanks.
It is a great show, with a great cast.
We are looking forward to the next season.
Love, love, love, Law and Order CI!! Hope they do a season 11!!
Best show on TV. I hope there is another series.
I have always thought these were the most interesting characters of all of the Law and Order shows. Can’t figure out why D”Onofrio has not won an emmy! Hope it continues!
The show must go on. Vincent D’Onofrio is a magnificent actor who first blew my mind as a murder victim many years ago in an unforgettable episode of Homocide: Life on the Streets. His Sherlock Holmes persona on Criminal Intent is unique. Only the dearly departed Peter Falk’s Columbo came close, but without D’Onofrio’s dramatic depth. Please let Goren continue to pursue justice, with the excellent Eames as his partner. Dick Wolf, take note!
Please continue for another season. I remember when the show started. I wasn’t too enthusiastic because there seemed to be too many versions of Law and Order with each show’s format being the same: Boring! Then I watched one episode of Criminal Intent and I was hooked like, I am sure, so many other are. Please, please, please give it one more chance-one more season, PLEASE.
Thanks
This show is awesome! I hope it doesn’t end. Goren and Eames are perfect together and always have been. I have been a fan since the beginning.
I was thrilled when they decided on Season 11, but it only left me wanting more – show is just too good – story lines strong, and two of the best characters/partners on television. PLEASE let’s have a Season 12.
I watched the last(?) episode of “Law and Order, Criminal Intent” this evening, and noticed several things…..In the last scene, when Goren and Eames were going to their car and talking back and forth, he addressed her as “Alex”. That is the only time in the ten years it has been on the air, that he called her “Alex”. He always refers to her as “Eames”, her last name. They were also smiling a lot at each other just before the scene ended. They never do that. It looked like it was the start of something romantic! Is that what… Read more »
I hope there is a season 11 (and more) for this show.
Got one word. MORE
I do not want to see this show end. Not having Goren and Eames on the show is what caused it to fail to begin with. Keep them on the show and you will see that it will be the hit show it once was. Bring the show back!!!
