Deadline reports Shea Whigham and Dawnn Lewis have been cast opposite John Hawkes in The Legend of Master Legend TV show pilot at Amazon. James Ponsoldt is directing the half-hour superhero comedy.
The project is based on Joshuah Bearman’s 2008 Rolling Stone article of the same name. Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster are writing the pilot about real-life superheroes. The show features Master Legend, “…a man who tries to defend justice and defeat wrongdoers on the Las Vegas Strip.”
According to the report, Whigham will play Peanut Head, Master Legend’s “thug of a brother,” who has recently been released from jail. He recently played Ray Liptrapp on HBO‘s Vice Principals. In 2015, he recurred as Roger Dooley on Marvel’s Agent Carter, which was cancelled by ABC in 2016, after two seasons.
Lewis has been cast as Tana, “the ex-wife and oldest friend of Master Legend.” She is described as, “…a hard working, no-nonsense woman who is continually caught between her love for Master Legend and his unwavering compulsion for justice.
Lewis first rose to fame playing Jaleesa Vinson Taylor on The Cosby Show spin-off A Different World on NBC. Her recent TV series work includes recurring as Patrice Perry on TNT‘s Major Crimes, as well as guest spots on Kirby Buckets, and Better Call Saul. Lewis has also done a lot of voice work, including stints on Sofia the First, The Boondocks, and Futurama.
The real-life “Master Legend” is a self-proclaimed superhero, who patrols Orlando, Florida. Check him out.
