Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

I thank the show should be put back on the air it was a great cast that got on well togther and that pulled me right in to the show I have all the seasons on dvd and i even have the book based on the science of reading faces. It was not just a good story and show but if you really took the time you could learn from the show as well. It would be a shame if the show dose not get a season 4.
I cant see why the show got cancelled , its a great and exciting show, don’t see the reason in why another network shouldn’t show them, fox to me is known as as a news station, not a movie network, Please have another season!!!!!
PLEASE HAVE A SEASON FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love lie to me its my favorite show you need to bring it back maybe if you have it on a different night and start showing some reruns so that people can see it more it will get more people in to it i will like to see it more then 1 week their are good actors and the character are great it will be really sad it if you take them off with out trying to do all you can to really keep the show on you know what you have to do FOX !!!!
Absolutely my favorite show on television in the last few years. I especially appreciated this show with a BA in Psychology, but it was really the characters that kept me coming back. I’ll miss it. Shame on you, FOX.
I’m a 21 year old college student and Ive been addicted to lie to me on net flicks the I found out it was canceled! #notcool I think the show deserves another season.
Why do they always cancel the better shows. Lie to Me is brilliant and it not only has great content but it is smart and whitty. But I guess shows like these cannot compete with useless reality shows, want to be stars and other pointless programming. This show is/was a brain teaser and what is even better it is based on a real person. Maybe Lie to Me could have been sold to another network that might have given it another chance. Shame on you Fox.
Very dissapointed they cancelled lie to me, one of the very few good shows they have on air. They better not cancel fringe, i will go on a fox strike!
Seriously??? Why?? I never watch TV…didn’t even know when a season was supposed to start but knew I was waiting way too long for Lie To Me to come back. And what do I get for finally following a show?? Cancellation! This was a brilliant show, and I hate psychology. I dropped psych my freshman year, never to return. Lie To Me mixed in observable (literally) science perfectly. My point is that I am the one person never to get into a tv show, let alone one focused on psychology, and I was hooked! We were just getting into all… Read more »
I love lie to me. when i had to choose a course to follow, secondary school. a month before the i had to choose my mother showed me. an episode and I went from wanting to become a computer graphic designer to psychology. it has been the best thing to happen in my life and just thinking about all the people that won’t get the chance to watch it and have it change their lives is a sad thought.bring it back,
I love this show! It has definitely sparked my interest in psychology. I was so disappointed to find out that the show was cancelled, I use to run home and rush through my homework assignments in order to watch thep show. I’m very disappointed its cancelled, please bring it back, 🙁
I have never searched out any information on a network series in my life (I’m in my early 60s), and would really like to voice my objection to the cancellation of “Lie to Me,” which in my mind is one of the most brilliant shows on TV.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this matter.
I’m a 28-year old girl from Belgium and I’ve been discovered Lie to me a couple of years ago when I was on holiday in the Dominican Republic. I saw an ad on tele. I came home and I immediately started looking for it. I started watching it and I got so hooked up that on a certain moment in time, I was following the series at the rate of USA broadcasting. I loved the series and it spiked my interest in psychology, body language and communication. So I’d just love it when a fourth season would come up! I’m… Read more »
i just found out about the show on October 2011 and loved it so much i had to by the seasons its definitely the best show i ever seen and who ever made the decision to cancel it is crazy , i hope some one in charge realizes there mistake , it had the the potential of being bigger than CSI , they just needed more advertising .
Lie To Me is a great show, but showing it on FOX is what killed it. Lie To Me and House are the only shows I like, but I wait till they come out on DVD, because Fox has them in a crappy time slot. Also, Fox has done little advertisement for Lie To Me!
