While today’s NBC infront presentation brought good news for fans of struggling shows like Heroes and Parks and Recreation. Those who enjoy Life weren’t so lucky.
Life revolves around detective Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis), a man who served a dozen years for murders that he didn’t commit. He lost all that was dear to him but survives thanks to his studies of Zen philosophy. He eventually rejoins the LAPD but is a very different man. Others in the cast include Sarah Shahi, Adam Arkin, Brent Sexton, Donal Logue, Brooke Langton, Robin Weigert, Jennifer Siebel, Victor Rivers, and Jessy Schram.
The NBC drama debuted in September 2007 to 10.15 million viewers and a 4.1/11 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. Later episodes sank to a low of 5.72 million and a 2/6. If not for the writers strike, NBC would have cancelled Life after one year. The execs instead decided to give it another try and renewed the series for a second season.
Unfortunately, the next round of episodes didn’t perform any better than the first. NBC needs fewer shows next season because of their Jay Leno experiment but, even if they didn’t, Life wouldn’t be coming back with such poor ratings.
NBC’s co-chair, Ben Silverman, made it official today and confirmed that Life won’t be coming back next season. Thankfully, the last episode of the series gave viewers some closure and answers to ongoing questions. These days, that’s a luxury that few other shows are given.

i hate you nbc what a great show so who set him up we will never find out so not fair……..
Mann! das Könnt ihr doch nicht machen, da habt ihr mal entlich was mit n bisschen niveau und dann lässt ihr es fallen!
nicht ganz dicht!
this was an amazing show…this really sucks
NBC exec’s are all impotant——————–show some class, bring back too finish this very smart drama.Life is great, if it isn’t cut short.
i’m so hating this. Life was such a good show. I don’t really feel like there’s enough closure during the season finale. WAD HAPPEN TO REESE AND CREWS???!
I’m gonna miss Charlie Crews…
I am very disappointed that this very intelligent, and sometimes funny, series has been cancelled. I would tape the show faithfully whenever it was on, but it did get pretty confusing (& I did miss some) because of the time changes….WHY? The people in charge should have left the series alone in the time slot it started in because I really believe that’s why this show is kaput…I WILLLLLLL MISS THIS SERIES!!!! I even have a DVR now and taping would’ve been so much easier. NBC Execs–I believe that you have made a big mistake on this one!!
I am starting to hate the execs at ALL the networks. They’ve killed Life, they’ve kill Saving Grace, they have killed ever single show that I’ve enjoy – F’em – I’m done lapping up the dregs of the sitcoms, reality shows, and downright mindless BS from the networks.
The more I watch television, the better I like my iMac…
I am SO disappointed! I found the show to be well structured and balanced, and Damian could have led the show all by himself if he wanted to. We loved ” Life ” in Italy…there would be so many others they could ditch…I’m always hoping for some sort of comeback
What a great show it was. I find it interesting that people are finding this thread this late.
What a pity, I agree with the meanings, that every good show get death…
It was the same with other good shows, and now LIFE has gone ….
Do they think about the viewers? Only money, money, money…….
Termiator The Sahrah Connor Cronicles=Terminated, Life= Killed …..
🙂 F**K You TV ********…… every good for us is worst for you…..
There are very few shows for intelligent people on TV. Most story lines are repeated over and over, what a bore. It’s a shame this smart show was cancelled. Obviously NBC did not know where to take it. Maybe they should get smarter people to write for them. Look at the Leno debacle.
Cancelling the 3rd series is something they’ll regret later. It has a cast full of actors who can act & work well together. It’s something special when you get a team like that.
I get fed up with TV, it seems like the bigboss people have more say than the viewers, very very frustating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this sucks. all my favourite shows seem to disapear.
American networks constantly change the timeslots of their shows which ends up confusing the viewers and leading to lower than expected ratings. Some people aren’t even aware of the time change and don’t bother watching it again if they’ve missed episodes and others liked the original timeslot and just won’t bother watching it once it’s been changed.
Life was a great show that was murdered by NBC execs but they think it was our choice. Disappointing but that’s “life”, there’s nothing we can do about it.
