Why did CBS cancel Limitless? At this summer’s TCA press tour, network chief Glenn Geller explained why there will be no second season of the series, TVInsider reports.
Based on the 2011 film, the drama followed Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who is given a special drug that unlocks 100% of his brain. The cast also included Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Hill Harper, and Colin Salmon.
During the panel, Geller said CBS cancelled Limitless because he didn’t “think it connected with the viewers”:
Ultimately we had to look at the show; it was a very good show, but I don’t think it connected with the viewers as well as other shows had. Yeah, we could have brought it back. But we also have to put on new shows and give other things a shot. It could have come back, but we have to do better; we want to improve time periods. That’s why we put on new shows.”
What do you think? Did you watch Limitless? Do you think the show should’ve been renewed?
Oh come on mate, ofcourse a super genius wont connect with the average audience but can you not cater to average people all the damn time? Its okay to be brilliant!
Just found this show. We love it!! BRING IT BACK!!!
Does anyone who is anyone who could bring this back actually read these comments? It’s a great show. BRING IT BACK.
I started watching the show a few weeks ago and now just about finished, on #21. Although I did not watch the movie until about half way through the TV Episodes. The movie was very very good! The TV show is excellent to the say the least! It has action, intelligence, laughs and touches on things that are peritinenet to the society we live in. I really don’t understand your comments, with not connecting with the viewers??? Am I missing something here? Please expain. I think you are off the mark in not renewing this show! Just my opinion, I… Read more »
I thought this was a good show. Super disappointed we wont get to see a second season.
Smart writing. Superb acting. Gripping plot lines. Overall a Good show. But now it’s cancelled? Dumb move CBS. Television is going down the tubes.
I loved this show so much. Had some thought and creativity behind it and kept the viewers wanting to watch more. We would have limitless parties where we’d all get together at my house just to watch this. Coming from a 23 yr old female with a husband at the age of 26, this was on out top 10 favorite shows!
PS Bring back Brian Finch & Rebecca for more airtime!
The really good shows don’t get picked up because most of the viewing audiences are not bright enough to understand intelligent content. They would rather watch shows like Threes Company or Chips. How about The Love Boat!! How the hell did America become great? Do you need a question mark for a rhetorical question?
Please please produce second season!!! Loved the show so much! I saw the first season already three times. Still quite exciting.
Finally an exceptionally interesting, intelligent and quirky show and they end it!!!!!! WTF? I’m guessing they need to make bland, boring shows because those appeal to wider audiences. Audiences that they have made dumb by airing bland shows. It’s a self perpetuating cycle, and it goes only one way; downhill. Conversely, at the BBC, British audiences eat up shows about nature, science, astronomy. Because the people making their media don’t just feed them sugar like pushers, they send out high quality shows and audience intelligence grows. By curating shows to suit the lowest common denominator the people that make choices… Read more »
I just watched the show on netflix and loobed it!! Please bring it back!
Please, PLEASE !!! Bring it back, as you stated it was a very good show. Sometimes you watch something just because it’s fun, you said you didn’t think it connected with the audience, come on, an average guy going nowhere with his life and suddenly (NZT) he matters. Who hasn’t thought, “if only I could make a difference”, my wife and just finished binge watching “Limitless” on Netflix we watched the original episodes as they came out, we think it deserves a second chance.

LOVED it. I’d pretty much sell my grandmother for another season.
My husband and I like different types of TV shows, but we both enjoyed Limitless. We’ve been waiting for its return. I finally googled to find out when it will return and read the disappointing news! Definitely it was one of the best shows out there.
A well written, acted, and produced series like Limitless is off and SCORPION CONTINUES!????? What can they be thinking? I think the church-ladies at CBS got uncomfortable with the idea of the “drug thing” or the DEA got involved. Ironic isn’t it that Breaking Bad was such a hit.
