The end is in sight for Syfy‘s Lost Girl series. The upcoming fifth season will be the show’s last. Star Anna Silk announced the news to fans via Twitter and YouTube.
Silk told EW that, “Honestly, I thought we might get one more, but I knew that this could be the last season… It’s time, in a way. In terms of the story, I think we could have done another. But I’m happy that we’re saying goodbye in a particularly strong season, and I’m pleased that we’re gonna go out with a bang.”
On the positive side, the producers of Lost Girl learned that the series wasn’t being renewed for a sixth season early enough so that they could make a true series finale.
Here’s the video announcement:
There are 16 episodes in season five and the first eight will air in Canada starting December 7th. Syfy has yet to announce an airdate — or to officially announce that they will air the fifth season. It’s almost guaranteed that they will, it’s just a question of when.
Here’s the press release about the series ending from Showcase in Canada:
SHOWCASE ANNOUNCES THE EPIC FINAL SEASON OF LOST GIRL
TORONTO, August 25, 2014 – Today, Showcase revealed that the previously announced fifth season of Lost Girl will wrap up the fan-favourite series. In a message to the show’s loyal “Fae”-natics, Lost Girl star Anna Silk revealed that Showcase supersized the original 13-episode order to 16 final episodes bringing the series to a thrilling conclusion. The season is split into two heart-stopping parts, with the first eight episodes airing Sundays at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase, beginning December 7.
“The massive popularity of Lost Girl is a testament to the inventive and hard-working team at Prodigy Pictures, the magnetic and talented cast and the most devoted and passionate fan base in Canadian television,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media. “We’re so proud that Showcase has been the home to this landmark series and we look forward to sharing these final 16 episodes with the show’s fans.”
“It’s been an absolute honour playing Bo, and I’m looking forward to seeing where her personal journey leads her this season,” said Lost Girl star Anna Silk.
“Lost Girl has been an incredible ride. We’re so proud to have delivered a show with the groundbreaking message that you can live the life you choose,” said Executive Producer Jay Firestone.
Lost Girl follows supernatural seductress Bo (Silk), a tough yet loveable Succubus who feeds off sexual energy. Since realizing she is part of the Fae, creatures of legend and folklore who live among humans, Bo has resisted choosing an allegiance to either the Dark or Light Fae clans. Instead, she has forged her own path between the human and Fae worlds, while embarking on a mission to unlock the secrets of her origin.
In the blow-out final season, Bo goes to hell and back to try to save the people she loves, triggering an explosive chain of events that play out over the exhilarating final episodes.
Lost Girl was developed by Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media and Showcase. Executive Producers are Jay Firestone, Vanessa Piazza and Michael Grassi.
Lost Girl is produced with the participation of the Canadian Media Fund created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry, and with the assistance of the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit Program.
What do you think? Do you like the Lost Girl series? Is it time to end the show or should it have been renewed for a sixth season?
Time for it to end. I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons and I like all the actors who play in this series. However, it began to seem to me that they were trying to carry this series on sex and nudity and I’m just here for the supernatural, monsters, fun stories. Porn is easily available all over, but especially available online. Why do so many of our TV shows decide that we need to turn good shows into soft porn? And, why with the polls putting LGBT folks at less than 5% of the population, do our TV… Read more »
Continue it , and put lusty Bo and Dyson back together! Did the actress who plays Kensey want out?
It should have been renewed for a 6th season. 6 seasons is a perfect length of time for any TV series (if written and produced well) because it makes viewers miss the characters and the story, which in turn would bring more viewers if the writers and producers collaborated again on a different show. Although, a reunion season could be considered now and that would send fans through the roof with happiness! I am glad that the final season is being cut until next year (here in the U.S.) because now there can be a true series finale.
I loved it, very sad to see it end. Every episode brought something different and you were always excited to see what the next new episode would have. Notsure wy they decided to end it but usually all the good shows get taken off. They needed to re-concider since I am sure it had a good following. Hopefully SYFY will show reruns of the old ones.
I love!! The show and will miss it.I wish it would’ve been picked up for at least 2 more seasons .thank’s to lost girl for a great show.
I think the show should do a 6th season. I just discovered this show on Netflix and love it. This show captures the mythical and the real worlds in an outstanding way. Bo is the rebel that we can all relate to in the ways she sticks up for humanity in the Fae world. We have all had our battles with Light and Dark. The cast is outstanding and so believable in their roles.
I am glad it ended. I never really liked the series. I only liked Bo and Kenzi (and the actresses who played them). And, I liked the relationship between the two. They were like sisters. But, when Kenzi left, it bombed. I think Kenzi (and Bo) really held the show together.
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL LOST GIRL..THE SHOW SO ROCKS & IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES
We’ll here goes another show that I love! I wish they would keep lost girl going. Next will be Bitten…ugh grrrrrr…..Stop ending all these shows. There are people who do love them!
I recently started watching Lost Girl on Netflix and it was a breath of fresh air, brought me back to Dark Angel/Buffy/Charmed but it held its own. Anna Silk as Bo was an original character, not so focused on love but on not always having to follow the social standard but of making choices for herself. When I read that 5 was its last I was hoping for at least one more season! I think the show should have gone on for at least 6 seasons.
I am sad that season 5 will be the last. This is one of the best shows that I have watched.
I have just been binge watching this show from maybe mid season 3 thru 4 all the way up to s5 e3……Its been getting better & better…
tho I fear no Kenzi/Kesnia may leave a gapin hole for a bit…
And to think shes on that tragic lump TURN…
turn my stomache..LoL
As a fellow Canadian,it’s a pleasure to watch a show staring a Canadian that keeps you wanting more. Sorry to see the ending of yet another Canadian chapter.
