ABC has done very well with their political drama, Scandal. Will Madam Secretary be a similar ratings hit for CBS? Will it be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled? Stay tuned.
On Madam Secretary, former CIA analyst Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni) returns to public life after being recruited by the President (Keith Carradine) to become the new Secretary of State. The rest of the cast includes Željko Ivanek, Bebe Neuwirth, Geoffrey Arend, Patina Miller, Erich Bergen, Tim Daly, Katherine Herzer, and Evan Roe.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/12 update: Madam Secretary and two other shows have been renewed for a second season by CBS.
Final season averages: 1.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.82 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a couple weeks later.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season two?
I’m really enjoying Tea Leoni in this part and Bebe Neuwirth always holds up her end; Tim Daly always a hunk. The 2 staffers ‘Daisy’ and what’s- his- name, totally not believeable due to mis-casting. Having said that, I appreciate the realistic machinations in the daily running of the State Dept. The situations have been daunting, imaginable and engaging. Kudos to the writers there but the rebellious s**t for brains daughter? If you’re trying to appeal to your preferred demographic, you’re embarasing yourselves. The ‘millenials’ are of somewhere watching reality and tweeting. Us grownups are watching and enjoying a good… Read more »
Like it .. Keep it another season …
great show! Keep it on. Love Tea Leoni.
The amount of positive comments on here for a show that can’t even break a 2 is suspiciously like a campaign blitz. The show is OK at best a I suspect it will not likely get past 2016.
Have begun to hear offensive anti-democratic comments I find jarring. Have decided not to watch the program.
My favorite show on TV! Please keep it going! I’m telling everyone about it!
I love the show. The acting is great. It has a great story line and I enjoy it. However, can’t the producer giver Tea Leoni a better hair style and better clothes? I am so tired of looking at the bad hair days and bad choice of clothes has really become a turn off.
Definitely should be renewed! A quality series.
Pat I so agree about the hair. She needs to have a more professional hairstyle while meeting with others. Esp. those in a position of power.
Tea Leoni is decent actress, but the story is very, very dull. If the intent is to draw parallels to a future run of Hillary, the effort is shockingly poor. It’s difficult enough to imagine a world that would actually want another Clinton in the Whitehouse, especially with the current liberal-driven and scandal-ridden administration.
Last comment I read, WAS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED, or so it seemed. It’s only supposed to be something like today’s Governmental frustrations, some of which MUST BE TRUE TO LIFE. About the upcoming campaign, well lets leave all of that to itself, after all this is TV. And I suppose we could TRY ANY WHITEHOUSE, new or old for SCANDAL. Lets just enjoy a good show…or change the channel.
So tired of reality shows. They suck. Please Madame Secretary on. The best show on TV right now. Even been watching all the shows on demand to tide me over until it starts up again.
I love the show. It’s my number one TV program
Madam Secretary is an excellent series and very engaging. Love the show. It’s so much better than all that reality junk that’s on TV. Hope to see it return.
Thank you CBS admin for saying Madame Secretary will return Sunday – but for how long? This is an excellent series: smart, well acted, and very engaging. With so many really poor shows out there, I appreciate a really good show. No – it’s not going show anyone fighting, swearing, or going naked in a reality setting…so maybe it is not going to gain the demographic you are looking for. However, it will be watched by some loyal viewers who will tell friends and co-workers about it, and the ratings will grow. Please, just give it a chance.
Where is Madam Secretary? We love that show, and haven’t seen it air after 60 Minutes now for the past few weeks! Don’t cancel that show. When is the next episode coming on? Has it moved to a different channel? What is going on?
It returns this Sunday.
Hello Craig and Becky. How are you today? Bill here. Madam Secretary was on holiday shutdown. It will be returning with a new episode this Sunday. It is a great show…
My wife and I love Madam Secretary and would hate to see it cancelled.
Please keep it going for many seasons to come!
A good drama only comes around once in a while any more…No more reality shows! You want reality, walk outside.
I love, love, love Madam Secretary. It reminds me of West Wing, one of my favorites, back when. Like the high drama, the feminist element (about time!) and the sad but probably true portrayal of the delicate balance between public and private life which our public servants strive to maintain. Also appreciate the mix of drama and crispy dry humor. Please renew this show! I SO look forward to Sunday evenings.
I love this program tea and everyone down to the writer’s are great. Please do not cancel
this show it is such a huge hit in our home and has been so great to have a sunday hit to look
forward to again.
