ABC has done very well with their political drama, Scandal. Will Madam Secretary be a similar ratings hit for CBS? Will it be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled? Stay tuned.
On Madam Secretary, former CIA analyst Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni) returns to public life after being recruited by the President (Keith Carradine) to become the new Secretary of State. The rest of the cast includes Željko Ivanek, Bebe Neuwirth, Geoffrey Arend, Patina Miller, Erich Bergen, Tim Daly, Katherine Herzer, and Evan Roe.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/12 update: Madam Secretary and two other shows have been renewed for a second season by CBS.
Final season averages: 1.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.82 million total viewers.

Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a couple weeks later.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Overall I enjoy the show. But the writers should seriously reconsider or be fired for perpetuating an unrealistic view of Iran. The 3/15/15 episode portrayed the Iranian government, especially the secular leaders of Iran and the Mullahs, as humanistic and compassionate. In fact it made the Americans “the bad guys.” This is a political statement that is totally out of touch with the realities of the Iranian society and its global terrorist objectives. I know it is a TV show, but it projects an extreme left wing American perspective and it was totally unbalanced.
I love this show! Hope it renews, in fact it better!!!!!!
Love, love this show. It keeps getting better each week. It’s much more realistic than Scandal and far better written.
this is really a good show it has everything you want suspense drama and tension everything a good series has.
My husband and I really enjoy this show and glad it has been renewed! Tonight’s show had so many twists, was well written with only a couple of ‘huh?’ moments. The leading characters have great rapport, chemistry and make this show worth watching.
My husband and I are far past the Nielson demographics, however, we love this show. It’s the first time I have seen a show about the government that may come close to how our government is run! I would like to think that our government really has a heart on occasion.
enough sick **** in world… like the negative people in here… keep the freakin show on… neilson stay out of my life you sick ********…lol
I do not fit the “prime” demographic target. Both my wife and I really enjoy the show … both the political drama … and their family dynamics.
Please continue
I LOVE MADAM SECRETARY!!! I really hope it’s renewed!!!
I love this show. I hope it’s not cancelled
Madam Secretary’s viewership is in the double-digit millions. Idk why anyone would ever doubt it getting renewed. There were even spikes of increases by the millions going down the list, showing that more viewers end up getting drawn into the show–rather than being disinterested in the longrun. It’s an amazing show and the viewers know it. Compare it to ABC’s poor ratings for the same night.
the recent trend is both demo and total views is down. and that recent 1.1 is scary.
CBS has not had success with this time slot since the end of Murder She Wrote which was years and years ago. This show does not fit the bill for a family show (too political and real life scary issues for kids) which is why ABC wins with AFV leading into Once Upon a Time. CBS needs to go back to the drawing board and do a true family show we can all sit and watch together that has broader appeal like Murder She Wrote did. I could care less for this show and judging by the dismal rating many… Read more »
I hate this show. The smug arrogance and condescension of the lead character are disgusting. The show makes it seem that the entire world relies on savior secretary. Ridiculous.
Charmaine, you say “smug arrogance and condescension” like they are bad things!
I think is should remain on the air. Its a great show. I love the family dynamics and the conversations. didn’t realize it was back on so had to catch up via the streaming sites.I think the ratings reflect the fact that many didn’t know it was back on. Do you also account for the on line watchers?

Please…everyone knew this show was coming back on. CBS advertised for 3 full weeks constantly prior to it returning that it was coming back on. I think the ratings reflect what happens when you align a character with an all too fallible real life person that then angers the American public like Hillary did these last two weeks. Say the show is not inspired by her all you want everyone thinks it and that is what counts. Not to mention it is just BORING. It has been renewed but I don’t see it being a ratings winner for CBS.
Please bring Madame Secretary back. I love the show!
it has already been renewed
