While the season of Madam Secretary drew healthy viewership, the demo ratings for the CBS series were far from impressive. Will they improve in season two? Will the TV show be cancelled or renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.
On Madam Secretary, Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni) is the shrewd and determined Secretary of State who drives international diplomacy. She battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues, both at the White House and at home. The cast also includes Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Wallis Currie-Wood, Tim Daly, Kathrine Herzer, Željko Ivanek, Patina Miller, Bebe Neuwirth, and Evan Roe.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/25 update: CBS has renewed this series and 10 others for the 2016-17 season. Details here.
5/9 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
For comparisons: The first season of Madam Secretary averaged a 1.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.82 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Madam Secretary TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
My favorite show…please renew it!
I absolutely love this show. Please keep it going!
I love this show please don’t cancel it. It’s the highlight of my Sunday evening after a day of my husbands sports
Less terror please, put Henry back in academia, more family life stories- a little on edge but not too much. I love this show but can’t watch it when it is too scary.
Why is this show still on when you are getting rid of “Person of Interest”. The only reason you continue with it is because it’s basically a show depicting Hillary Clinton, and we all know that the entertainment media wants Hillary to win. So let’s keep a crap show on while we cancel a great show.
I love both shows and I don’t think that Clinton was (is) ever that smart or had that much caring for persons that she came in contact with. The group of persons between the ages 18 – 49 are not the only person that watch TV. I really can stand the crap that they would have us watch.
I don’t think the show will slip below a 1.2, but its ratings are WORSE than last year. If the ratings go down next year, CBS must cancel it unless they can find fools willing to pay for it to make it to syndication. CBS used to really care about the ratings its shows received. All you need to do is look at the ratings Elementary has, and you see that doesn’t matter anymore. Shame.
Enjoy show very much but since Henry has moved from academia to government the show lost some of its zip. If the fact that Henry taught theology has drawn criticism from the left change his class subject. THAT would be a lot easier to accept than him in a covert government position. Sorry it just aint working. This seems like an idea time to move him back to academia with the marriage on the rocks. Just saying
Please keep madam secretary! Great writing and smart characters.
I didn’t think the ratings would stink(I mean sink) far enough down that this show to actually be considered for cancellation, but they have. There are 3 episodes left. I don’t think the show can sink below a 1.2, but let’s see. The first season the ratings on this show go below a 1.2 for the season, it must be cancelled. The excuse of turning it into Madam President once Hillary becomes president isn’t good enough. This show is starting to fall apart.
I can’t wait until I see the next season
I’m 69 years old and always watch Madam Secretary. She is a pretty and strong woman along with a good wife and mother in that roll. Keep it going!
Madam Secretary is a good show and characters
Yes
Yes. Please renew Madam Secretary. Very good show. Entertaining. Thought-provoking. Likable characters.
The only reason this show ever made it to tv is CBS’s lame attempt to convine low-information voters that Hillary Clinton
