Season two of Manhattan may have ended this week, but there’s still hope for more of the WGN America historical drama. Recently, series creator Sam Shaw spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the writing of season two and his plans for another season.
The second season of Manhattan finished on December 15th.
Manhattan follows a group of fictionalized characters in 1940s Los Alamos, New Mexico, just as the Manhattan Project is getting underway. The series stars John Benjamin Hickley as scientist Dr. Frank Winter, in addition to Olivia Williams, William Petersen, and Daniel Stern.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Shaw mentioned that the future of the show is currently an “open question.” As of now, there’s been no official renewal from WGN America. Ratings for season one of the series fared poorly, with an average viewership of only 420,000 viewers. Season two decreased slightly.
Nonetheless, Shaw still has plans for a third season. He says the series, as a whole, is like a “three-act play,” and the end of season two is the the end of the first act.
Shaw, on the future of Manhattan:
I thought of this show as a kind of three-act play and the end of this season should just bring us to the end of the first act of that story. What awaits is a story about the America that was born on the other side of World War II. The beginning of the atomic age and the way in which we remade ourselves. I hope we’ll get to follow characters in this moment when Los Alamos goes from being the best kept secret in the world to being the most famous city on the planet.”
What do you think? Do you watch Manhattan? Would you like to see another season?
Keep the show going!
Yes! Please let us have a third and fourth season
We need at least one more season. Dont leave us without an end
i would dearly love to see Manhatten 3rd season. i and my sisters and friends
loved this show. the period clothing and props were spot on. the story had wonderful twist and turns. Please, please bring it back.
One of the best historical dramas on TV. Don’t understand why the best shows get cancelled & we’re left with idiotic reality shows.
Please, please don’t cancel Manhattan. The show and characters are superb. One of the BEST, and there are few, shows on TV with any substance and the cast is second to none. It is a must see program providing an intelligent adult script, genuine characters and entertainment. Also on my “must watch” is Salem and your fabulous new show “Outsiders” and can’t wait for “Underground” to start. Finally something terrific to watch instead of all those boring who-done-it shows and the equally boring hospital setting programs. PLEASE reconsider your decision to cancel Manhattan.
I can hardly wait for season 2 to show up on Hulu. I want season 3 asap!
We love the show and hope there’s a season 3.
We have to know what happens to Frank, and Olivia, and Paul, and Helen, and Charlie, should I say more.
Manhattan is one of the best shows on TV. We are looking forward to season 3
One of the best series on TV! My husband & I both love it. Please renew for 2016!
I very much enjoyed Seasons 1 and 2 of Manhattan. The acting and set design were superb, and the writing balanced the characters between scientist/warrior and idealist/zealot very well. I would like to see the show continue, but dread it going down the path of M*A*S*H and becoming less of a period piece and more of a contemporary soapbox.
Season 3 is a must!
My wife and I love Manhattan – a show with substance and good acting.
Please do not cancel Manhattan. It is one of those shows that not everyone gets but tells a great story. Season 3 would finish telling that story. Don’t leave us hanging.
