TV show description:
A period drama, this show is set in 1943 in the secret town of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hidden away by the federal government, scientists live there with their families while they work to build the world’s first atomic bomb.
Frank Winter (John Benjamin Hickey) is the lead scientist on the Manhattan Project and is brilliant, kinetic, and self-destructive. He’s a man who believes that scientific work is what matters most.
If it weren’t for his wife, botanist Liza Winter (Olivia Williams), he would have become a recluse years ago. Now that military secrecy has severed the lifeline of communication with Liza, Frank is a man who is very much alone.
Cut off from her husband, Liza is snubbed by the housewives (who think of her as a scientist) and shunned by the scientists (who think of her as a wife). Callie (Alexia Fast) is their rebellious teenage daughter who’s become frustrated with small town life.
The newest member of the team is Charlie Isaacs (Ashley Zukerman), a young man who’s know for both his love of numbers and his conscience. He distinguished himself as one of the rarest talents that the physics department at Harvard had ever seen. While in college, he also fell in love and married a Jewish girl named Abby (Rachel Brosnahan). She’s now a housewife and the pair share few interests other than their young son and Abby finds it difficult to fit in with her new community.
Frank Winter’s former mentor is Glen Babbit (Daniel Stern) and it seems like he’s always helped keep Frank out of trouble. It was Babbit who asked Frank to join a secret military project in the New Mexico desert.
Other scientists include Helen Prins (Katja Herbers), Jim Meeks (Christopher Denham), Paul Crosley (Harry Lloyd), Louis “Fritz” Fedowitz (Michael Chernus), and Sid Liao (Eddie Shin).
Episode #23 — Jupiter
A new era is ushered in with the first test of an atomic weapon.
First aired: December 15, 2015
What do you think? Do you like the Manhattan TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
PLEASE renew ! It’s the one intelligent show on TV !
love this show. it will be another breaking bad .
Very enjoyable but frustrating when they show an episode 3 times in a row in the same night. So much more enjoyable than the stupid reality shows. I am a WW 2 baby and remember nothing more than air raids, but this makes those times come alive. Love it.
Sorry – that was supposed to be 5th episode
%th episode is supposed to be on Sunday. Love this show.
Just caught this on Hulu and watched the first 4 episodes in rapid succession. A really thoughtful, well acted show. And I am really enjoying it. It’s doomed.
You watched FOUR episodes? I saw three and my online TV guide says there are no more scheduled. I’ll go back and search again.
I was stuck on this show like an atom stuck on another plutonium atom. Until they split when they cancelled the show. Split like Trinity. Going on two years and I still miss it. I’m sure it was a network moral thing. More likely the government (undeserving of a capital G). RENEW MANHATTAN!
Best show on tv I love it
A friend told me about Manhattan in time for me to see the third episode. I liked it so much I had to go back and watch the first two episodes. It’s a fascinating story & enjoyable history lesson. I look forward to watching episode four and really would hate to see this show cancelled. It’s needs to be marketed more so the public can enjoy this jewel.
I LOVE this show! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t cancel this show!
l like the show also, but the scenery is wrong. Have you ever been to Los Alamos. Its in the forest in the mountains!
Love the show! My husband and I have watched every week, keep it going. Fastinating history of our country.
We agree that the Manhattan series should be continued. It is far superior to the
sitcoms that we are forced to endure ( that are for the brain dead viewers)
So agree, refreshing to see history come alive. The live shoes they keep dragging out are so awful, nice to see someone actually thinking.
I am really enjoying MANHATTAN! The authenticity alongside the story of THE BOMB is wonderful. I was born in 1947 and did not know about THE BOMB until I was probably 12 yrs old. The story given to students at that time were lacking, to say the least. MANHATTAN is filling in so many blanks of that historic time. It is excellent and should be given another season if it is not decided already. I am also an avid BONES fan and want to thank you for such great entertainment!!
“The Gadget”
I agree with Bob. I would only vote for more period series such as this on regular cable. I also think more advertising for such shows would do wonders.
Finally! A serious show about our history and it might be cancelled? NO!
Replace with what, more annoying brain dead pablum?
