Tuesday night, FOX debuted a new drama for the Summer months, Mental. So, did the premiere’s ratings make the network crazy-happy or just drive them crazy?
Mental revolves around an unorthodox psychiatrist who becomes the Director of Mental Health at a fictional Los Angeles hospital. Created by Dan LeVine and co-executive produced by his sister, Deborah Joy LeVine, the series stars Chris Vance, Annabella Sciorra, Derek Webster, Jacqueline McKenzie, Marisa Ramirez, Nicholas Gonzalez, and Edwin Hodge.
The series premiered on Tuesday night and finished in third place for the 9pm hour with 5.8 million viewers and a 2.1/5 rating/share among the 18-49 demographic.
Those numbers aren’t that impressive but the drama did build on its lead-in, a rerun of the popular and very compatible House. There was also very little drop off between Mental’s first and second half hours, indicating that most watched the entire episode.
So, while Mental didn’t have a great debut, it wasn’t bad either. As we enter into the Summer months, viewership tends to fall off so the network may be okay with these numbers. But, will people return for subsequent installments? Will FOX give the show a second season once all 13 episodes have aired? We’ll have to wait and see.
So, what did you think? Is the show worth keeping or should it be cancelled?

Keep it. It’s terrific.
Please keep this show on the air. I’ve only seen the pilot so far but I really enjoyed it.
Please, do yourselves and your viewing audience a favor, and keep this show on the air. What a refresing change from the “reality” garbage we’re forced to deal with on network television.
Please, please do not take this show off the air!! I am totally enjoying the show and Jack Gallagher!!
The show should definitely stay. Yes, it is somewhat similar to shows such as House and ER, but I feel that this show inspires more than just another sense of entertainment. The character, Dr. Gallagher, inspires people to hope and to see the lighter side of the trials that each person goes through. This doctor doesn’t give up. Though I am a very large fan of House, I find that the constant negativity of the show can be somewhat of a hindrance. I toss my vote in the hat as: KEEP THE SHOW!!!
A Definite Winner! Keep It Please!
Maybe the network should try airing more commercials about the show, letting people know where and when to tune in.
I discovered it on HULU and loved it at first watch.
I just discovered this show and have been ranting about it to friends. I hope they give it a bit of time. It is really a unique show.
Keep it.
This is such a cute show, please keep it!!!
Keep it!
Just watched the pilot on Hulu (scheduling issues make it difficult to watch on TV) and loved it. Will be watching the rest.
I really liked the pilot. Interesting characters and subplots. Having psyhological perspective is something new. Keep it!
Gotta be kidding me. This show has so many weaknesses, I cringe watching it. Perhaps its just writers and actors learning their roles, but I dont find myself drawn to this show at the least, nor do I find any of the situations believable or the character’s compelling. If tv wants people to wait between 3-4 minutes of commercials, they are gonna have to do a whole lot better than this. I doubt this will make it past season 1.
I think the show should go on at this point. I liked the pilot and the cast. I am a big fan of Annabella Sciorra and hope they will greatly develop her character more, both at work, in the hospital, and in her character’s personal life. I do prefer her in very dramatic roles since I believe that is where she does her best work. She is very talented and I hope the producers will take advantage of this strength.
it is a keeper, I really enjoyed that the diagnoses was typed out so I could look it up before the show gave me the answer. I am in the medical studies
