At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Oh I loved Mercy, being a nurse myself, finally a tv series I could actually relate in some aspects….. I wanted to see veronica and Mike work out their marriage and was the Dr. on the crashed plain? This show was a hit and I would have followed for as long as it was on 🙁 sooooo disappointed.
This is possibly one of the best shows I’ve seen in the past 10 years. I wasn’t hooked until I saw a few episodes. If its gone from TV forever then maybe NBC would consider doing this show as a DVD release only.
LOVED Mercy…HATED Trauma! Just don’t understand how such a great show got cancelled with so many loose ends! Found this show on Netflix and couldn’t wait for season 2….. all the characters were interesting, they all had such potential. This show has GREAT potential, so many different story lines to be developed. and my applause for leaving out some of the explicits the other shows write in….. It is obvious when 2 characters are in a relationship and are going to have sex…I don’t need to watch it play by play. Ugh. Mercy was very tasteful in these situations. Bring… Read more »
I loved this show, bring it back!
NBC SUCKS! This show was the next ER!
Definately need to see an ending…really leaves you hanging.
Loved the show!
we loved this show and kept looking for again in TV listings. What a shame
I loved it !! I wish they will at least give us a good finale
OMG! My favourit show =O cancelled.
Please, I just want an end…
I can’t believe MERCY would get cancelled. I loved this show it helped me get through nursing school. I really am going to miss it. We have medical dramas out for Dr’s, Private practice. Surgeons=Greys anatomy, now what do us nurses get??? I think they should try it again.
one of my favorite shows… way better then greys or private practice. PLEASE COME BACK!
I loved this show. Me and my boyfriend a former Marine couldn’t wait to see it every week. We where always left wanting more. The show seemed so real with her emotions and problems that you just wanted for things to work out for her. When I found out it was canceled we both where so disappointed. NBC needs to reconsider bringing it back or another channel needs to pick up the show…..Please!!
Thats is soooooo a mess ! I LOVE this show !
They could have boosted ratings if they wanted to. There are so many story lines in which this show could have redirected.
I was so hooked to this show, maybe if there was more advertising on it, it would have been a hit..just like grey’s anatomy!! this was a great perspective on the lives of nurses, whereas grey’s anatomy has won many hearts depicting the lives of doctors..its a shame, there will not be another season. so disappointed!
